Attempt #7 at applying for a IT & Business Skills course, literally just trying to grab qualifications for what I know.

Too bad the past is the past, gonna keep trying!

What you need the course for? (I missed the story of #1-6 sorry)

Most IT courses are going to be dated..

To be honest, it's to prove to courts that my life is on the straight and narrow. I've always had huge interest in computers and the likes of them, thought it'd be a good path.. Not gonna stop me anyways, I need to keep myself busy

Have you tried the other way around?

See if there are any independent IT / Tech shops or IT services (thinking network installs etc) that could take you on as an apprenticeship (see if Ireland offers any tax / business support as a supporting case for taking you on) THEN use that as leverage to get applied onto a local college course or even something open like a city and guilds / nvq or similar?

Just thinking to try and work the course around you and whats going on now rather than them looking back at the past

I really like these ideas... I guess getting that call to say, sorry we can't take you on has dampened the mood too much. I'm going to look into apprenticeships now!

Zion, thanks ya big bully ;P

I know in the UK if you take someone on like that you can get massive tax breaks and in some cases 50% of that person wage covered there are other perks as well if you take on people in specific areas and backgrounds.

I'm thinking if you was pro active about it (show a go get em attitude) and crank up the computing enthusiasm by 1000% someone might take you on if you reach out to them - colleges and that with courses won't be as fussy then I don't think.

Thats the one down fall of our society once you done your time - they don't really let you move on from it. The system is broken like that I think but thats another thing totally.

I've not been "educated" for some time so I don't know the latest trends and patterns - there's nothing online you can do or I assume the cost will be something daft like 3k

BHW has proven to be the only community/employer/job-finder that has broken this exception for me

I love you guys for it, I feel normal here

We had a program like that for people just out of the military here in the States that I really took advantage of for a while.

They paid 50% of their salary for a period of time (I think 6 months) and we got a tax break also.

I had some unusual characters and some solid citizens during that time and after 6 months if they did not catch on I let them go but if they did I gave them a raise and a permanent position.

I'm not even sure how I found about the program to apply for it as we didn't have internet as we have now to search for that sort of thing but I bet that if you did some searching, @CPANathan, you'll find more than one program that will fit into that round hole they have for you as to the requirements for the rehab deal.

@BassTrackerBoats I really thought any college's or formal places of education would turn people away straight away, this college about 2 hours away from me seems to take into account the convictions compared to the person...

If I get this, I will literally owe you everything man...

If you need a letter of recommendation I am sure I can put together one that is professional on company letterhead.

"However, the University will take any relevant criminal convictions of a prospective applicant into account when considering applications for admission, and reserves the right to refuse to admit an applicant where his/her previous criminal conviction makes it inappropriate for him/her to be admitted. A relevant criminal conviction (“Relevant Conviction”) is: a. any conviction in Ireland or abroad for an offence against the person, whether of a violent or sexual nature (whether or not a custodial sentence was imposed in respect of such conviction); or b. any conviction in Ireland or abroad for an offence involving unlawfully supplying controlled drugs or substances where the conviction concerns commercial drug dealing or trafficking (whether or not a custodial sentence was imposed in respect of such conviction). For the avoidance of doubt, a conviction or finding of guilt to which section 258 of the Children Act, 2001 applies is not considered to be a Relevant Conviction. "

Man words are getting twisted in my head again, does this mean convicted dealers can be assessed or does it mean they don't look into them
