Hi guys,
Just like what the title says, I just have a question regarding the current state of youtube.

I was a content creator around a year ago and I did pretty well in terms of views and am looking to get back into the game. Part of my success on youtube was because I learned how the algorithm worked at the time: videos over 10 minutes long + buying HR views + a few other factors = ranking the video very well which also results in people discovering it through youtubes search engine/ recommended videos, etc.

As many of you know, youtube is constantly changing - if i tried to do what i did a year ago, it might not even work.

my question is... how does youtube rank videos as of now/ how does youtube pick which videos are going to be discovered (example: finding it on recommended videos on your homepage) and which ones do not? I know that this is strictly AI based but it has just been a very long time and I no longer know which methods work and which ones do not.

Anything you guys can relate to? Discuss?

Thanks to all in advance.

So much has changed since then! Right now no one do not really know what's happening
with the latest Youtube Algo update

this is the most barbaric method but still useful until now, bro...
if you can't upload quality (good) videos, then upload with quantity.
It means, the more you upload videos, the more likely your videos will be suggested to others.
What I mean is, try to upload one video per day, any video, but make sure your video doesn't break Youtube ToS.
In three months, you will see the result, bro.
just quote or tag me if you need more explanation.
Even if they know, No one will tell you..
Sorry, mate, I disagree. This IS a forum where we share our knowledge. If you think coming here is just to fetch knowledge from others without even giving back, you're wrong, bro.

my videos are of very high quality - they take time to create so I wont be able to upload multiple times a week. Any feedback? thanks again for the reply.

i told you bro, if your video is a good quality like what so many people are looking for, don't worry bro, just upload regularly see? like once a week is fine.
but please, mention the title of your videos three or four times in the description, so that the engine can find your videos easily.
also, try to mention your channel name in the title and the description. (old method, though, but still working just fine)

Whilst I agree some decent methods are shared from time to time, please don't be so foolish as to assume anyone would share their direct revenue source.

of course. it can be saturated. that's just general knowledge. lol

I joined YT after all the major updates that took place over this (2017) year. Which means that the fast growth in a not trending niche is quite a challenging process. I started my channel in September 2017. From what I see, succeeding on YT these days is very similar to succeeding in Google search.

- Content is the king. By that I mean retention of the audience and other stats. If your video has better stats than other competing videos, you have better chances to outrank them. However, for a small channel it still hard to rank well for a high competition keyword without a lot of authority and 3d party traffic.
- Bigger channels have more authority than smaller channels. It seems that YT artificially limits exposure of smaller channels. It can be a speculative information, but this from what I notice with my channel.
- YT loves 3rd party traffic. Promote your videos somewhere else as much as you can and pref. within the next 24h after publishing. This have impact on the performance your video for a long time after that. Sort of sets the pace and YT gives more love.
- YT loves regular uploads. If you don't have audience on other platforms, then you better be uploading at least 2-3 times a week. After about 3 days YT reduces exposure of your videos, from what I see on my channel.
- As a small channel it's better to target long tail keywords. This way you have way better chance to get ranked in top 3-5 of search and get some organic traffic.
- And of course SEO. There are chrome addons like VidIQ and Tubebuddy, that provide great help even with free version.

I am in this forum already about 3 years, but mostly just observe and rarely post. yes, indeed in this forum people sharing but only sharing things that most people already know. just think logically, we are here compete to get revenue through youtube, I'm sure 100% no one will share all the details he knows about youtube. (sorry for my bad english)

2018 is here and youtube is still here even if they update and old stuff don't work, all we need to do it to keep testing and change the tests, something will work, it may take a while but this same as regular SEO they
can never stop you from finding the short way.

and yes, i always share knowledge with my clients, they smart and they keep testing on their own and they also share it with me, that's a crowd wisdom, that can also work here.

based on my experience ranking does not have too much impact on views, unless we target big keywords (funny, how to make, how to lose weight, etc). for small channel UPLOAD CONSISTENTLY is the key, and do not expect instant results ( in 1 year you can make minimum $1000 )
