Redirecting backlinks for ranking

I have created a blog post on my ecommerce store long ago, that had plenty of do-follow Branded backlinks.The post was some niche related article but not about any exact product.

I inserted internal backlinks to give some power to one of my category page. But that didnt had any influence on rankings.

Now I am thinking about redirecting the whole article with about 10 Brand backlinks, to the category page I would like to rank higher (that I internal linked before).

Could this method work or will it mess something up?

It will work best if your category page has the content of your blog post somewhere, but I don't know if it would look nice, really depends on your site. If the content is completely different, you may not get the SEO benefits you're after.

I would also use a fresh URL for the category page and 301 redirect the old blog post. Having similar URLs, titles etc. for both would definitely help.

Performing a 301 redirect would definitely bring in the link juice to your target website. But please ensure that the domain that has the links, has a clean backlink profile (no spam) otherwise, you will also redirect those spam juice to your new site, which would not be very good then. I use .htaccess for 301 redirect and they are working like charm, in terms of passing the link juice over.
