Hey BHW hope all is well!

What do you guys suggest for a new subreddit? How do we get users?

Advertise on BHW
1) Crosspost your images/text to a similar and relevant subreddit. That is a good way to get some eyes on your subreddit.

2) Subtly mention your subreddit whenever something relevant comes up in the comment section of any other subreddit.

To get more users in subreddit, here are some tips you can consider. You should actively participate and have fun in every interaction with other users. You can post funny stuff or interactive ones. You should also have the right mix of text posts and visual content. Also, you should not use promotion in your first post. Furthermore, you should talk less about your achievements. Make sure your posts are enlightening.
 
Depends on your sub’s content. If your sub is image/video based, then try to crosspost posts in your sub to other related subs/mention your sub in the comment section where it’s appropriate.

If your sub is text/info based. It’s harder to get followers. So here is a trick. First make sure your sub has good content. Next do a search site:reddit.com for queries related to your content. Help people, give them the info they want, and mention your sub in comment section in any post showed up.

You are not going to get subscribers as fast as the 1st type but here you have targeted users.
 
Cross posts won't do a lot in terms of populating a new sub, the real trick is to name drop your sub in the comments. It's going to have to be one of the top couple of comments though and the original post will have to get a lot of upvotes.

This one. BUT there are a lot other ways like watermarking - subreddit name mention not direct mention - twisted comments etc....
