Recommend me the best SSD/HDD

Okay so my hard drive is dying & it's in desperate need of upgrading. I've had my current hard drive for about 6 years. Unfortunately, I'm not so good with hardware hence why I decided to ask you folks. Now I know some dickheads will say "b-but why don't you just google it" Well, most sites I see that are on page 1 of google have affiliate links, of course, they're gonna be bias af.

Also, is an SSD really worth the extra £'s? Sure I know it's a bit faster but's that's really all I know. It's probably time to learn more about hardware tbh.

SSD is more expensive per gigabyte, but way faster. I recommend Samsung EVO SSD.

I had a seven year old laptop that was slow as fuck, I switched the HDD with an SSD, and it felt like it was brand new.

Thanks man. Yeah true I always say I'll upgrade but then either forget about it or just be like oh it'll be fine for another year. Seriously, I've had about 10 BSODs, had to install windows 3 times all this in like the last 2 months. I read online something about bad sectors, but yeah it's long overdue for an upgrade!
 
I believe faithfully that the SSD makes a big difference compared to the HDD. But I do not recommend installing the system on this hard drive, I would even recommend that you buy several hard drives if you can to distribute the speed of each one. For example, installing the system on an HDD and the programs on an SSD will make your PC go faster than you have only one SSD where you have everything.

The good thing about SSDs is that they are obviously faster, the disadvantage is that they are more expensive, less GB than HDDs and strangely I have heard that they tend to damage faster than HDDs so you should be careful with a good backup of your most important files.

In short, if you divide the information into different hard drives, it will make it easier for your computer to handle programs or video games since the bandwidth of each hard drive will not be as used as if you had everything in one.

Man yeah I lost so much data because I didn't backup anything. 100gb of IM ebooks n shit lol. Luckily nothing important haha. Yeah I'll deffo get an SSD. And backup, backup backup!

Even on a coffee machine if you put an SSD will speed up the coffee grinder by ~30%. So, go ahead :D
 
I'll suggest you go with m2. For the operating system, and few programs that are your daily driver.

Im running 1TB M2, 2x 512 SSD, and 2TB HDD for cold backups, heavy games, and stuff I don't need that often.

SSD: M2 Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB
FastStorage: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 512GB x2
HDD: Seagate 2TB

You can get this for pretty cheap nowadays, back in the day I paid 600eur only for the m2.


Judging by "6 year old hdd", you wont have a slot for m2, so just go with an SSD. 860 EVO is like $100 for 1TB

You can throw in 2TB or more HDD for backups. This are 50-60$

Hey I don't judge, have some kinda same PC around and I'm using it as a server to deploy shit before going and buying VPS or DEDI.

@UnusualSubstance no, its not bad if you running low end programs, but running tools on this has to be pain in the ass :/

But giving it SSD, will change your life for sure. No matter how low end the spec is.

As long as I can run Chrome, a few basic apps I'm all good ;) My HDD is always at 100% and windows launches CHKDSK at start up lmao. That's when you know you're fucked.

As an IT guy, I will suggest you to switch to Samsung EVO SSD. Please avoid Kingston, please!
On my laptop, i have Samsung Evo 512GB (primary), and removed my CD-ROM drive, and added Samsung QVO 1TB (found them cheap on one site for 80$, now it is ~100$). Both have great speeds.

You can purchase the same amount of RAM running at quadruple the speed for around fifty bucks, 666MHz is very slow compared to current standards, replace that and add an SSD and you will be opening and running tasks at blazing speeds.
