Receiving Payments in Belarus

Hi there, I'm an expat living permanently in Belarus.

I find great difficulties in receiving payments for any freelance projects or from companies because they keep asking me for a Paypal account.

Currently I'm using Payoneer which is great because I could withdraw money to my local bank but you know, it's a huge tradition to use Paypal everywhere and I'm stuck.

Are there any digital nomads or remote workers here who has deal with this issue? I hope I make sense.. thank you.

Interesting. I've never heard of fin.do

It's definitely a challenge to convince someone or a business (especially if they're not the owner) to add credit card info to a payment provider they have never heard of. Looks like you have to link your card before sending money.

Payoneer from first glance looks more professional and trust worthy. They did roughly $500M in revenue in 2021. It's more akin to other checkout system where you just enter your CC info the one time instead of saving it to send money in the future.

@Lenz do you have checkout setup on your site or how are you requesting payment? What is the concern they are saying other than do you use PayPal?

Did you try Wise? (formerly TransferWise), they have very good rates and very reliable. Plus you can get also a debit card with it. Easy to transfer cross-borders. I used them when I was in Malta for a while. Highly recommend.

It is not the person that is sanctioned; it is the country, so nobody can use PP there.
 
PayPal in Belarus, according to the PayPal website, don't work. I also found out that you can create a good account in a different way.

There a ways to create PP accounts with a different address/account/IP - The issue is if PP found out, they just hold the fund and keep asking for endless documents. So in a way, PP love it when someone create an account outside of their respective location, they just hold fund.

I use PayPal every day to receive my payments. If you use it twice a month to order a pizza, they don't care.
But as soon as you use it for business purposes, and they have a real eye for detecting this, they ask you for documents.

For my latest book, I studied the various ways of escaping Western sanctions imposed in the wake of the second war in Ukraine.
It's technically feasible, but it costs time and money.

I'm not asking why they can't use PayPal. I'm asking what is the client's concern outside of PayPal.

The reason needs to be addressed to help with an answer.

Just try to stay away from stealth paypal as it will put big risk on your money and it's not worth it
 
If you still have your ID from your old country, you could setup a private vpn and then use your old address for the paypal account.
