Reason for email/domain blacklisting ?

Hello All

I'm starting in the email marketing. I would like to know How does a person's email/domain name gets blacklisted ?

Is it due to the receivers complaints/reporting (clients) ? Or Is it because of the emailing service your using such as Mailchimp that reports you ? If they do, is it to common blacklisting organisation or are there many ?

If i wanna get into this i have to understand how this works !
