better to have some license for using images, you can easily get caught if you don't have any

First search the internet for free public domain images. If you are in the educational field, and need one image that you can't find anywhere else, and you can't
make it yourself, then you may use it under the fair use clause of copyright. In your google searches always use things like -stock -istock etc. to make sure
you aren't using anything from the big guys that are just waiting for your mistakes. You can also alter images by flipping them horizontally, adding new artwork,
text, changing the color scheme by rotating colors in graphic converter, which will make the image into a new piece of artwork. The more unrecognizable from the
original the better. You are creating new art from an old template. I am not a copyright lawyer so always consult one for your important questions.

Here's my advice.
Understand how that industry has changed and is changing.
Content providers no longer have to manually scour and scan the Internet to find invidivuals and companies who have stolen their images. There are image monitoring services such as:
I have a friend who does commericial photography (he uses an image monitoring service) and he regularly get hits on his images, especially from high-end real estate agents and brokers. So far, he has a 30% pay rate; meaning, roughly 30% of time when that company sends out the legal notice, they pay and keep the images, LEGALLY.
The day is coming when those services will offer in-house attorneys to go after image jackers.
That means, CYA!!!
Personaly, I subscribe to ALL of the free image services, plus I subscribe to FreePik, Envato Elements, CanStockPhotos and a few others and I have never ran out of options.

Copyright trolls are a real thing, I was hit by one and now I'm permanently paranoid
I think either there are no risk or you pay a lot. Never experienced it myself so maybe I am lucky but have heard and read about people being dragged to pay a huge money also. It's a risk sure now it's upon the individual to decide to take it or not.
