This is regarding the "Warning" sticky above. I'm not allowed to post links yet, but I'm sure you can find it. It's thread# 131987.
(Kind of silly to not even allow internal links, newbie or not.)

I haven't posted much here, but been lurking a while and I'm active on other boards. So before I get more involved, I want to make sure I don't step on anyones toes and read the rules. So I looked over FAQ and other Rules stickies, but find it confusing:

    • That "Warning" quotes a point 13, but without giving a link. Where is that list? It's not in the FAQ and I'd like to see the other 12 or more rules.
    • That "Warning" warns against inflating post count with "Thank you" posts. Yet the forum is full of them. I mean not just one or the other here or there; they are EVERYWHERE. Why are those rules not enforced?
    • I tried to answer another members question with a link to a site with a good explanation. I'm not allowed to because I'm new. Fair enough. (although as mentioned above, local links to other threads should be allowed) But where are the rules about link permissions? How long am I going to be a restricted "newbie" here? Nothing in the FAQ or anywhere else I could find.

Some clever mod moved the thread away from where the Warning sticky is.

The thread the OP is refering to is in the Black Hat SEO forum: Warning.

Here is the link for the rules he's looking for: Forum Rules.

Unfortunately the Forum Rules link is only available from the "Black and Gold" or the "OLD Black Hat World Style" Themes. If you're using either of those themes then there is a link in the top nav menu for the Forum Rules.

If you're using any other theme, then you actually need to know the url or change the theme. Just go to Themes dropdown box at the bottom left of the page to change themes.

Even after reading the rules though you might find some things a little vague. Reading the rules is the first step, but you also need to keep an eye out for other threads that give further explanations.

I've made some replies in the Guide for New Members thread linking to various other threads. You'll have to browse through the thread to find the posts, but the information can help you out.

I've also answered questions in other threads and linked to various threads by the mods. I'm not a mod here, but I have a fairly good understanding of how the rules are enforced. I usually give links to the related threads whenever I explain anything related to the rules. If you feel like it you can search through my previous posts looking for thread titles asking about rules.

As far as seeing many "Thank you" posts. That isn't because the rule isn't enforced, but more because no one usually uses the "Report" button for those replies. The mods are usually more busy dealing with the scam and spam posts, so the thanks posts slide by more often. They definately aren't considered acceptable, and can get a member banned if they keep it up. If someone wants to just say thanks, the proper way to do it is use the "Thanks" button.
