So a little while ago I started a new moneysite. I registered a dropped domain that wasn't particularly strong in metrics but suited my niche. It was a partial EM and had the main kw in lot's of the anchor texts because it is the site's name, all natural though. Anyway, I did my regular thing, put up some content and just let is sit for a while. I set up Search Console and waited for the data to come in. Once it did I noticed something quite interesting: under the search analytics tab there was a query with a rather specific term that I knew was nowhere to be found in the content I put up. I vaguely remembered seeing this exact term come by once in the anchor text profile so I checked and I was right.

So what's interesting about this you may ask? Well, as it turns out you can rank a site using ONLY anchor texts..... and to really shock all of you contentkings out there, Google will even rank your dropped domain based on its previous anchors. So next time you pick up a dropped domain, don't just look at the metrics. Make sure that the linkprofile suits your goals because Google will NOT remove / weaken power from previous links. In this case there was just one link from a site that wasn't very significant.

If you keep the same niche this is very true, but if you veer away from the topic with new anchors and content it may change quickly.
