Ranking in Google News

Hi everyone,

I have a website that is in Google News although the competition i am against always seems to outrank my articles meaning mine don't show high enough to display in search results.

Just wondering if anyone knows any tips or tricks to rank higher in google news?

basic seo... same rules... If you don't mind sharing name of site in PM i can give you better feedback... I don't have site in Google News right now but I had it and it was good source for traffic... In start we faced similar problem but later on we were getting better exposure... Also is it news or press release or both... If News generic or niche specific...

You can only do it in press release, normal news content can't be used for marketing which makes it tough to place links...

I recommend Paulo to get in Google news, used it a few times with great results:

I know its press release, I also know few good press release service provider. How I can do it my self ? Which way they (press release company) are submitting article to the google news ?

They create news article style sites, then submit them for "Google News approval", and if approved, they are taken as a source for Google news in the topic, and syndicated by lots of sites which use Google news for content creation.

It's little tough to get inside but not impossible... If you can create one good site based on their guidelines then you can also try...

I think its really tough to get Google news approval.

Another question, which only happened last week. My site which is listed in google news doesn't show in google results anymore. The articles we write are listed on top of the google news page but when you are on google search results it cannot be found at all. It seems it is penalised from search results, has anyone seen or read of this before?

Not sure what is going on as the site would always show in search results until mid last week, was there a change to google news?

It's a million dollar question, but yes, i have answer for that. Need to remember one thing - Google news is different and Google organic results is different. Doesn't required any SEO process to gain top in News. I have 2 sites in news from past 4 yrs and they are doing great with out seo.

Start your title with your targeted keyword (must be in H1 tag) and content should be good enough to read for a user, (even start your content with the same keyword). Need to have image above the fold and use long tail keyword as alt. Use perfect navigation. Use synonyms in content for your targeted keyword, don't repeat same keyword more number of times.

Few may have different opinions, but this is working out for me from long back

Its hard to get in now but its not a traffic gold mine anymore. Ive been looking on how to rank in google news, My old news site has been in for years and before Id get so much traffic, now I get few maybe 10 to 20 visits a day even after I publish a new article.

Before if you covered a niche you would out rank ny times or other big news orgs, for example if you covered Tennis your website was dedicated to Tennis, if you posted the news on Tennis events first you would get ranked first over new york times because you specialized in Tennis, not anymore with the algo changes and the made for adsense spammers Google made it harder to even rank in google news, now they only give the big news websites like the Times and huff po top spot even though they dont specialize in Tennis they run a story on Tennis thats hot they will get the top spot over you.

Smaller sites will no longer rank. Someone told me in order to Rank in google news you need to write fresh content daily, at least 4 or 5 articles, Id try that but the downside is what if I spend 5 hours a day writing articles and then not getting any adsense revenue" thats wasted time and you still dont get ranked, thats the painful part.

Making money is the main goal of very website, if you are earning then you get more motivated, but its hard to earn from ads now since almost everyone has an adblocker by default in their browsers now. Even some big news websites were complaining about this and put a disclaimer note when people visit saying please remove your ad blocker because this is how we earn our money, so even they are losing money from adsense due to the ad blocker.

Right now YouTube is the only place left where you can still have a shot at making money and getting traffic, I know some guys on the youtube forum they are not Famous at all but they just recycle hot news and speak on it for 10 minutes or do a reaction video and said they earn 75 thousand a year from adsense and they dont even have that many subscribers, but their videos get like 50 to 100k views each and they put up new videos daily.
