Hi there,

As many should know, ranking for thousands of keywords is better than for just competitive one. Definitely, the boost of traffic that a lot of keywords can give you is better than just one competitive.

Here is my question:

Is it necessary to get links for each one of those keywords to get them ranked? If I am targeting 1000 keywords should I get links for each one of them?

Please advice.

That's depends on the competition of those 1000 keywords. You're going to need a lot of content though.

You are going about it the wrong way.

You target 3-5 keywords that are 2-5 keywords long (ex. "How to make money", 4 keywords long) then you build backlinks with the anchor texts of the 3-5 keywords that you are targeting.

Then when you have enough links, etc. Google will start ranking you for other long term keywords automatically.

You don't target 1,000. You target 3-5.

A personal experience is that I was targeting "Hip Hop" and now 90% of my traffic is coming from my tags, etc. which make me rank for long term keywords.

Every month I have visitors from over 19,000 keywords!

So you suggest going after 3 or 5 competitive keywords, and the rest will come alone?

For example, if I want to rank for "cheap webcams", and I want to rank for othe 10 long tail keywords:
"perfect choice webcams"
"cheap usb webcams"
"hi-fi usb webcams"
etc...

So should I use only 3 or 5 keywords in the backlinks? Cause I started using all of them. In someway it will look more natural I think. But please share your experiences!

If You want to rank for 10 keywords then target 10 but don't go for thousands... As bobbylove321 said they will come automatically... Just concentrate on your main keywords...

1000 for all the site, not for just one page. Each page has 10 targeted keywords. The site has 100 pages. So make the count.

I don't necessarily agree with you bobby. Where did you get this info from?

I am also ranking for over 1,000 keywords and I targeted all of them using xrumer....

I am not saying your way is wrong....I just think it isn't the only "right" way to rank.

I guess it would look more natural if I backlink all keywords than just 5

U can for sure try to target all 1000 kwds but that will take a big amount of content or xrumer blasts. It can be done, it is not wrong in any way but it is way harder to do than to target for the main 10 kwds or so. No matter what you do you are gonna rank for some random keywords here and there.

However I cannot agree that a 1000 smaller kwds are better than 1 competitive. It all depends on the market. I rank with some of my sites for such obscure kwds that get me 1 click a year that even a thousand of those will not be good in terms of good quality traffic. So as all things with SEO, it all depends.....

I have a site that became an authority and it ranks new posts on first spot witout any external link. Off course if the post is related to what G considers my niche.

see the search volume of keywords and target the competitive ones which will benefit u in long term

Believe me, 1000 are better than 1. If a competitive keyword with 18000 exact searches per month at 1st on Google gives about 8000 with a high CTR. 1000 small ones with 500 searches per month they will give you about 250000 with a high CTR. Can you see the difference? The more the better.

You sit down and come up with 3-5 keywords, so with your keywords it would be something like:

"perfect cheap webcams"
"hi-fi choice webcams"
"perfect usb webcam"

etc.

You incorporate all of the keywords into 3-5 ones and focus on that.

You should also at least add one super competitive one in your niche like:

"webcams"

This way you have more focus on minimum words, and you still get full benefit.

There's no "right" way to do anything because at the end of the day keywords depend on your site, your country, your expertise, etc.

What may work in New Zealand for rankings will not work in the U.S. or Canada, etc.

I give tips from personal experience.

I have multiple websites in different niches.

One website is outranking VH1, MTV, and BET.

Another website is in the adult market outranking super competitive well known sites such as "brazzers", etc.

Yet another one of my websites is dominating its niche market which is alternative news medias.

You can target 10.000s basic keywords with creating unique content pages which are compatible with SEO guidlines. I create a Turkish project like this idea, It give lots of hit for me.

I agree with Booby's first post. I am currently targeting 6 keywords on an ecommerce site and by targeting those 6 keywords -that category of the site is ranking for an average of 2400 keywords. Now I may cherry pick some of those keywords (mostly long tail) and target those too, but for the most part it seems that as long as their is decent juice flowing G will rank you for other keywords/phrases. For me personally I think targeting 1k keywords is a waste of time (unless of course the site is just that big).
