Hey People,

I started with my first project using methods found here on Black Hat World. I am working slowly because I'm not in a hurry and I'm doing everything as unique as possible. I was walking up in the rankings, but I realized that my website had a duplicate content issue. So I retyped all the content on the homepage and even added 200 words more (now 523 words). The next day I dropped 28 places in the rankings. Is that normal or should I be worried?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Is the KW placement consistent for both HP versions?

28 places is quite severe if the content is fairly similar in KW placement, which means you could've been doing some aggressive link building?

Alternatively if none of the above is true, just a dance, give it a few days and see.

If its new, then it is just a dance. Nothing out of the ordinary. ..google always downranks then pushes yoi u p higher

Brand New... don't sweat it. Continue on and DO NOT use duplicate content ever... that is just plain ugly in the eyes of the search engines. You'll see fluctuations in your rankings all the time and less and less as you age your site and add decent content and backlinks to it.

Look at your site as a business and don't worry in particular about any one day's receipts but look at it over a three month time period. Adjust daily but operate with a broad overview of rankings and revenue.

You'll sleep a whole lot better!

I think its just normal.Keep adding new content to it.And making some links to it too.You will get your rankings back soon.

Duplicate content? Make sure that your website is using original content.

Don't forget to do link building also.

I wrote the content myself but I used a crappy theme, but that is solved. I will send some quality links to the website and then leave it alone for a week and see what happens.

Thanks for the input!

Just a quick tip. Check your keyword density for any overoptimization issues. If you have added new text, there's a chance that some of the words and phrases might be overoptimized a bit. Check out PHPbuilt's thread on this. It works, I know this from my own experience.
