Ranking at #10 and getting 4 UVs/day....???

I've been trying to rank for this keyword for about a month and a half, and it just jumped up to the front page at #10 yesterday.

However, According to AdSense, I had 4 page views today:(, which doesn't seem right because according to Adwords Keyword Tool, the KW has 12k global monthly searches and 10k local monthly searches. I've read that the tool sometimes isn't accurate, but 4 visitors seems way too low.

What's going on? Have I wasted my time with this KW?

The number 10 spot doesn't get much traffic at all. You have to get into the top 3 to get a slice of the pie.
 
How many times when searching for something do you click the bottom result on page one?
 
This is perfectly consistent with the percentage of traffic distribution on Google, according to http://eastes.com.au/traffic-distribution-google/
#10 should be getting ~%0.57 of the traffic, and if you do the math:
((12000/30)*0.0057) = 2.28

That is, you should be getting on average 2.28 visitors a day. You got 4, so this must be your lucky day :)

As drastic said... Make sure they are exact searches. HelloInsomnia and I both pointed out that the #10 spot gets very little clicks from search traffic.

You may also want to check google insights for search and see if it is a more seasonal term. Some keywords get more searches during different months of the year but the keyword tool only shows the overall average.

As stated above #10 aint shit.... Strive for at minimum the top 3 or 4 spot.

Think to yourself "When people search for this phrase what are they looking for?"... If you can figure that out put it in your meta description and lure them to your site.

When I do a search I read the description of the first 4 or 5 results and click the one that I think will be the quickest and best solution to my problem.
 
Be happy your getting any traffic at the #10 spot.
 
Keep link building, increase your ranks, increase your click through rate, increase your traffic and increase your CTR.

Don't stop now.

#10 is only 20% of where you want to be before you see any significant traffic/earnings.

First, you should know what is the exact search count to know whether the keyword is worth targeting.

Focus on related long tail keywords. This can bring you additional targeted traffic for sure.
 
Try to get above the fold man, your lucky to receive 4 views from the 10th spot, and that could of been you working on your site, if your in the 10th spot already shouldn't be to hard to get to number one, then again I don't know what your competition looks like.

I don't see why everyone is so caught up on #1 because typically when I search something my eyes scan the entire frontpage.
 
How I do my calculations:

Total KW Traffic/30 = KW Traffic Per Day * .25= YOUR TOTAL KW TRAFFIC IN SLOTS 1-3

So let's plug in your numbers:

10000/30= 333.33 * .25 = ~84 UV per day
Figure our numbers are based on a decent day of receiving 25% of kw search traffic.

Don't be expecting huge numbers daily for that low of a searched term.


Next site, go a bit bigger and try to spearhead a search term with about 30k Local Monthly Searches

More money, just a bit more effort
 
At position 10 you get around 2% of total traffic which works out to be about 200 searches per month, 4 visits per day would mean you're getting about 90 per month. Not that big of a discrepancy. Try to get into the top 3.
 
With math aside, there are some search terms where I noticed that you do get significant views even at #10. For instance, reviews and discount sites, because then people want to check more than one point of view, or more than one option. But if you're #10 for say "what is my ip" or "what does <insert-word> mean" then you probably won't get lots of traffic, since people will normally get what they want long before they reach you. But the percentage mentioned above is still true for most keywords, at least on average.

yes with the keywords its really a great matter to make it more nice
 
Thanks for all the answers! Looks like everything is normal, and I just need to continue link building.

The KW has 2400 global and 1900 local searches per month with the exact box checked. Hopefully it can still make me some decent $, the CPC is $4, but I'd be lucky to get $2 a click.

It's good that you clarified the exact search numbers. Remember to base your numbers on exact searches in the future. Another thing, being in #10 can also get you more visitors than you currently have if the pages above you don't offer the visitors the information they are looking for.

Why don't you focus more on site building? You can look at AW stats in your cpanel or whatever stat tracker you have on your site and see which phrases are/were getting you traffic. Make more content and use these terms more frequently. #10 may be a bummer for your main keyword BUT if the SE's trust you at 10 for that, I've noticed other pages rank higher as well.

If you got your brakes fixed at a mechanic who didn't screw you, would you take your car in to him when you needed your muffler replaced? Probably. The SE's work on trust, if they trust you with one thing they will more than likely trust you for other things too, right?

Expand your site and your other pages should rank nicely too.

Let me say you first at least Well Done for coming to No. 10 , But what it tell you is your are going on the right road , just keep on driving , one day you will get there .

Don't stop for coffee or lunch or anything because you are now on Motorway ..... With big lorries .

In short more link building and and you will get up .

Good results seems to start from 5 on .
