So this new song came out, I own a music channel. I posted it, my competitor posted it.

I posted it on April 27 and my competitor on the 23. So he had a 4 day advantage on me.

I cannot manage to outrank him at all, I don't know why.
- I have 4700 subs he has 800
- My video has keywords in descriptions and tags, his doesn't.
- My video has 3000 more views (yes some are fake but most real).
- My video has 35 more likes (250v215).
- My video has 5x the amount of comments as his.
- My video has a retention of 64% average

Is the timing really that important?

I've had this problem for years and someone still someone hasn't given me a valid answer.

What about the title? You can try changing the title and "split-test" to see which one ranks higher. Anyway, if it has higher organic views and likes, it's not that much of a problem isn't it? :D

I cannot change the title. It has to stay the same as it is a song title.

It has higher views because I posted it in high profile FB groups and Reddit, and I have a higher amount of subscribers.

has he got more text in the about box on the video?

Your competitor might be hiding few of his links. All these tools around are not 100% foolproof. Try getting more traffic in your niche through social engagement. It might help.

The competitor doesn't have any sort of optimization for the video. This is just a random kid who uploaded a song

"- My video has keywords in descriptions and tags, his doesn't." - The question is do you have the perfect Title, Description and Tags?

I'm extremely limited on that...its a song. If the title of the song is "Eminem - Lose Yourself" obviously my title is going to be something of the sort...

Sometimes, I find that if you submit to reddit and it has a lot of upvotes and comments from active organic users, it can supersede those usual tactics that you listed -in which anyone can replicate.

I'll update this in a month and say who has more views...

Firstly you bought fake views - why?!
His likes/view ratio is probably better than you since he didn't buy views. Nowadays, it's jut about watch time, and REAL views:likes & comments

He might have more embeds on 2.0's or others. Those seem to kick it to high gear.

I do Video SEO and Youtube Marketing and can tell you, too much goes into ranking a video.
Your competitor could have greater retention than you - even more likely because you bought fake views.
They could have embeds of their video.
Backlinks to their video to build page authority, channel authority
etc
etc
etc.

If you'd like help with figuring it out PM me.

HorusBlack- do you take job offers? I'm having trouble with ranking with my channel and cant figure out why. Interested in possibly hiring you

There's definitely people out there that know the tips and tricks around YouTube but there so secretive with it, that its almost impossible to figure out unless your in that said group of people. Wish there was someone around here that can give these type of pointers as its to hard to find anyone willing to help as long as there's money involved.

@OP How do you post songs on YouTube? How do you bypass the youtube copyright filter?
