I said it would be temporary (at best) if there was no relevancy. What are you disagreeing with exactly? That there will be any boost at all (because of lack of relevancy) or that it would be temporary?
If the latter, why do you think an unrelated site would benefit long term from 301'd links with no relevancy? Perhaps you're postulating that ANY link gives you at least a little juice, even if it's irrelevant. I would buy that, but would only add that I wouldn't go out of my way or spend much money to get a bunch of links that are not related to my site's niche, since they may not be any better than a blast of comment spam. Yeah? If not, please explain.
You must be an SE0moz fanboy and drink plenty of their kool aid... Why the fuck do you think some of the most powerful SEO packages post panda are high PR contexual blog posts and similar High PR "contexual" style services? Cause the shit works! 99.9% of the time you have a keyword focused anchor text link wrapped in relevant text on a page with 50 other "irrelevant" links on an "irrelevant" domain with high PR and a strong backlink profile and domain trust. I've had medium comp sites ranking top 3 for over 2 years JUST from a couple of these types of services alone and very light maintenance but I guess the definition of "temporary" is in the eye of the beholder. Furthermore, at worst, if big G deindexed or devalued the sites 99% of the time you will only see a devaluation or deletion of these links which in turn would just mean to build more links or replace the old to regain your rankings. Sick of hearing this "relevance" argument really from people that have no fucking clue what they are talking about.
I have also 301 redirected high PR domains (irrelevant) that I only added 250 words of relevant content to the page with my keyword wrapped in relevant text and the link juice and trust passes almost exactly the same as if the domain were "relevant". Remember, IP diversity is huge in this post panda environment too.
"postulating" LOL, these are big words for a knuckle dragging mouth breather like myself. As a matter of fact, I think I just postulated on my keyboard. Sorry for the rant but sick and tired of hearing people's propoganda in an industry that NONE of us truly know a damn thing about except for what we test ourselves and apply, still, it's all theory. But if theory works for you, by all means.
