Can be done, but the question is: do you have the budget?
There are many people who do it for some niches, but they use web 2.0 because of their authority and the link juice they can funnel via internal linking, tags etc..

If you're going to do it to your own domains, you're spreading your budget over 10 domains, instead of focusing on one at a time. Focus on 1-3, you can try different methods on each (pure spam, more white hat.. ).

I'd agree with herpderpslerp, if you want to go that route, mix up the domain and hosting registrations. Can they figure it out even with the relative anonymity? Of course, but you don't have to make it easy for them. The question is whether they care about your keywords. I would also advise against making dupe sites with the same themes. Mix it up a bit, then start ranking. Let us know how you did it.

who is them? google? why would it matter if someone owned 10 legit sites on page 1? also why does someone have to change the theme up? for what reason?

It's about the type of websites ranked these days, so each of those 10 sites needs to be different. Depending on the terms, you might have Yahoo Answers/Youtube/Facebook page ranking as well, so look at what's ranking right now and start from there.

Also - ranking 10 sites for a keyword, why not rank each site for a different keyword in top 3 instead?

So thanks for asking, the situation is I have a client trying to extort me for a full refund by threatening to post false information on some EMD's he bought which include my name + keywords. ie; mynamenyc.com, mynamenj.com, mynamedeveloper.com etc.

So because of the threat I cannot pay him until he signs a non disparagment agreement, which I had sent over to him. He is being very unreasonable and wants cash no cashiers check and he doesnt want to sign until I give him the money, which is ridiculous. He is basically trying to bully me. I have zero bad reviews or anything about me online but I have never had to do reputation management before for anyone. So I figured this would be the best method to try to play defense.

Legally I have been advised that I am doing everything in a reasonable manner which is what the judge will look at, but I still would like to make sure if he doesn't sign it that its not going to be easy for him to flood those pages.

Any advice on how I can play defense with this?

He won't know how to rank it. You can fight back easily.

Bullies tend to "feel" the weak - threaten him - I'll sue your ass moth**fu**er.

Buy 300 social profiles with your name, blast them with links. See what ranks first 5 pages and add some content, done.

Do you recommend anyone on BHW that can create these profiles? Can I use something automated like GSA or ....?

10 properties for the same keyword is a waste of time and resources if you ask me.

I had 1 property (a domain) ranking #1 for a profitable local keyword that was making me good money.
So I decided "why not rank more properties?".

I eventually got 5 properties all on page 1, in the top 7 of google. One is a google places, 2 are domains
and 2 are YT videos.

The overall traffic is around 2xs higher, sometimes 2.5, but nothing like I was expecting.

If you have 10 properties, don't expect 10 times the amount of traffic. Expect maybe like 3xs the amount
of traffic.

In my case it made much more sense to target completely different keywords with similar search volumes.

The time and effort it takes to reach #2 or #3, it doesn't make sense. Because you can rank for different
keywords #1 instead. And you get A LOT more traffic that way.

So in terms of ROI, I think your strategy is weak. Do 3 properties max anything over that is just a waste
of resources. Because you'll already be milking most the traffic for that keyword.

Every additional property you rank, expect a steep drop in traffic.

I know private blog networks require unique hosting and registration information, but is it necessary for ranking many websites which are not interlinked?

I guess Google don't want to show 10 results from the same owner, so yes you need separated hosting.

Dominating the entire page 1 is a top idea :) I've not gotten so far as to cover the entire page, but I have held top 3 in a nice offline niche for about 3 years now, consistently... the phone just keeps ringing!

The keyword that matters the most is your name alone, as other people would just google your name or the name of your business. You can cross off a few of those 10 spots by building up social profiles - those rank real nice for business names.

Thanks everyone, appreciate all the advice.

I jumped the gun and just got 10 profiles made per keyword.

It's been a long week and if anyone needs information how to handle this properly to not only give yourself the upper hand in court but to pursue damages from defamation just PM. I'll do a separate thread on it.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone, but i went from feeling hopeless to now feeling like I have the upper hand now.

Just remember the court cares about reasonable or unreasonable in these cases. The more reasonable you are, the less reasonable they look.

This is the great idea that you are looking to rank 10 same keywords for 10 different websites. But i would like to tell one thing that this is very hard job to rank 10 different websites on front page for the same keywords.

I would suggest you continue with quality work for your all websites hope you could get the result.

You know I thought the same thing, but crazy does what crazy does....

It's also not in my character to attack his business or his name, It took me days to resolve this. When your put in this situation it's fight or flight. But how you fight back is really something you have to live with.

I decided to trust the legal system and just be as reasonable as possible. Now with patience and preparation, if he puts the sites up I will drop the hammer on him and make him think twice about doing this to ANYONE ever again.

Sure the sites may make it up to page 1, even with the defense I put into play, but it's only so long it can affect you once you have a course of action.

Merry Christmas all!

Ahh shit. I didn't even read this dude. I would have answered differently if I saw this before.

I'm from NJ too and run a business and we've had an ongoing refund claim with one of our
clients for about 6 weeks now. Even when we state in our contracts that we do not give
refunds. Lots of people in NJ love to play dirty and this specific client is one of the worst
we've ever had before.

Right now its being reviewed by Visa. And our lawyer told us most of the time, Visa sides
with the client. But we still haven't gotten an answer on it.

In either case, I decided if Visa sides with the client, I'm obliterating his online reputation.
I have his phone number and address, and first thing I'm doing is posting ads all over craiglist
using his number, to have escorts call him up. Then I will give his number to as many spammers
as possible. So he has escorts and telemarketers calling him up 24/7.

I also plan on registering linkedin and facebook accounts under his name. Then I'm going to
befriend all his friends, and start typing racist shit all over those accounts.

It actually gets a lot worse than that. But I'm not going to post all the details online.
Either way, in NJ we have a saying which is "if you're gonna give it, you better be prepared to
take it". :)

For a while i have been thinking that i would like to get 10 sites just ranking for my name and have different title and descriptions appear in the google serps along the lines of...

<name> international playboy
<name> worlds best lover
<name> winner of Nobel peace price

So if anyone searches for me there are these false news reports.

Sad,yes, but that's the way i am :)

Dude. You're a beast. :)

I definitely know what you mean by clients in these parts (NYC Metro) being hardcore. Visa will side with the client unless you have a really good agreement. Word of advice, don't stop getting an update, keep calling and make sure that they get your paperwork and contract. They can also take up to 180 days to come to a decision, however if you have a contract you have a chance to win, but they are very tricky in that Chargeback/Risk Management Department or whatever name they choose to call it.

You're damn right about that last part, dont start something your not prepared to finish.

Word of advice - those actions are deemed unreasonable. Take him to small claims court (unless it's over $5k), you don't even need a contract but if you have one great. You will win for your work, worst case scenario the judge will settle on an amount if the details are not 100% clear. If he wins with VISA that doesn't mean you are not owed the money.

I know the feeling of wanting to destroy the other guy, but what hurts them more is $$$$. At the end of the day we are all in business and some things are not worth pouring tons of money into it just because of pride.

Some of my older clients told me that business is all about strength. Times like this, your strength is being questioned. Drop the hammer man, but whatever you do, make sure that at the end of the day, you do the best thing possible to get your money. Thats my take on it.

Good luck bro.
