Hello,

I have a pretty strong page that usely rank #2 for a product name behind the manufacturer website.

Article is 4500 words, with images and of course unique content.

For months the page move from #2 to #15, stay #15 for 2-3 weeks and then go back to #2 without me doing anything on it.

Any idea or experience about this kind of behavior ?

Your rankings are fluctuating. Google is testing whether the links you have built are artificial or not. It's expecting you to freak out and react to the fluctuations and then nail you. This is normal. Best to do nothing and keep on doing what you doing.

I see that for some of my keywords as well, whether I'm working on them or not. It's a little disturbing, but the only thing to do is to keep your head down and continue working on your site as you normally would.

Age of the content itself plays a huge role as a ranking factor. If the keyword has a low competition, then some age or just a couple of decent backlinks can do the trick. Oftentimes when it comes to SEO, doing nothing is the best option.

This behaviors is usually related to linkbuilding.

Alternatively, it is related to on-page stats / performance.

Things like time on site, bounce rate, retention views etc.

Google is constantly split testing.

Instead of tracking of the rankings of just your URL, track all of your 9 primary competitors as well.

You should get a clearer picture.
