Rank each article with backlinks?

I just need some clarification. If I am manually building backlinks and I have 9 main articles on my website that I want high in serps...

Do I need to create backlinks for each article?
Can I create backlinks for the main page and have the juices flow to those articles? Granted the proper on-page SEO.

I'm sure it would seem more natural if I created it for the articles as well but I am just trying to figure out my mandatory options.

Yes, Usually People when linking out links to the article link and not the homepage so. better make backlinks for each article for respective keywords you want them to Rank.

If the article URL is 'example.com/do-you-eat-food-with-water' and I create the anchor 'example.com/do-you-eat-food-with-water', would it rank for "do you eat food with water"? Do the "-" matter?

Why not Just make backlinks with anchor "do you eat food with water". You might have done keyword research before writing articles right ?

And remember Anchor text ratio matters. just do not crete all backlinks with the main keyword. you gotto use similar anchors too.. in short you need to diversify anchor texts.

Do very little backlinking to your home page... do some but very little. The money is in the inner pages so you want to backlink them using a variety of KWs that are similar to the targeted KW as well as some generic ones.

Don't use " at all when you are doing any backlinking as that is unnatural. People rarely search like that online and do not use dashes either.

If you want to target do you eat food with water, target it as it is without any additional changes. Do change the words up some like people like to eat food with water, sometimes you should eat food with water, eating food with water has it's benefits, etc as well as click here, visit this site, get more info here etc.

Variety in your backlinking anchor text is very natural looking.

I have a 3 questions if you don't mind?

If I have one inner page with no backlinks and I decide it to buy 10 blog post do I use my kw only for all the 10 blog post or devrify it?

And approximately what is a safe kw density i try to stay under 20% but its hard when you have no backlinks for diversity?

And its safe to use high pr blog comments to lover the kw density?

Yes, keyword research is the first thing I did.

Diversify for Sure! Use 7 different KWs for that.

20% is pretty heavy for both on and off site in my opinion... under 2% for on site and under 12% for your main KW for each page for off site.

Sure it is as long as you use other backlinks also... you need diversity in your backlinking with anchor text as well as types of backlinks.

Build links to your other inner page also, especially keyword related page should be link. Unrelated keyword and link page going to spam. More over don't focus your main keyword and main page to all links. All the best.
