Yes, of course, you can, and in fact, many people especially in the beginning rank their sites without backlinks, as backlinks aren't something that you will insert as soon as you create a site as they require some time and proof of traffic volume. So, in the first phase, you should focus mainly on adding quality keywords to your content and try to rank your site high with them. Do thorough research to find keywords that have a lot of search volume and that aren't so competitive at the same time, make a list, and start adding them on different pages on the site. For this purpose, creating some good blog sections on the site would be useful as well.

It really boils down to the niche you choose, and how saturated it is. If it's small you can easily rank without backlings as the times goes by. However, if you have to compete with giants in the industry, e.g. business insider, ranking with no backlings is much of a pain. It's not impossible, but it's hard… really hard.

Yes. If your Social profiles rank high for keywords you target, then you can do fine without backlinks.
The other thing is brand awareness. It’s very powerful and takes great efforts to build it properly, but essentially, it doesn’t require SEO or backlinks to be recognized if your brand is already know to it’s customers/users. This way, all you need is ads.

Yes u can with long tail keywords but depending on the niche. It may only offer lil to your site as traffic for those search terms tend to not be searched for frequently. But yes its possible!

Yup! It only works with low-hanging fruit, but for ultra-competitive keywords, BACKLINKS are a MUST!
