Wasn't he told by the doctors he had 3-4 years left to live after he was first diagnosed with his illness at the age of 21?
Which is the case with most people with that illness.
Having lived to 76, that's beating the odds.
That's gotta be weirder than being born or die on the same day as another famous scientist as others here mentioned.

I just read on Twitter that Steven Hawking was born on the 300th anniversary of Galileo's death. He died on Einstein's 139th birthday and on Pi day, the day each year when scientists and mathematicians celebrate the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Wow
