I don't know if that's an old wives tale or not. I've heard people say that before. I'm sure it's not true but it I've heard it before and I don't think there's any proof that that's true but may be some scientists will figure out sooner or later.

Congratulations on your decision to quit! I quit 14 years ago cold turkey using, if you can believe it, using tootsie pops. I'm an addict to the bone and have quit booze, heroin, pot, cigs, gambling and now all bad foods too. I get hooked on things very quickly. But once I give something up it's gone forever. After the initial withdrawal days, you will be fine!

If I can do it ANYBODY can do it!

I know quite enough of people that are complete non-smokers even if they did smoke like crazy for decades so I wouldn't agree with you. If someone says - never again and really means that, it's doable.

But if you quit and left a tiny option that you would do it again, than it's a problem. I did it 2 times, first time for year and a half, second time for one month but failed both times unfortunately.
 
I'm not worried about staying done it's pretty easy because my mind's made up. Just at the moment everything aggravates the living shit out of me. Right now I'm trying to figure out what the new word press update has done the all my sites. So today started off with a bang for me and hadn't slowed down yet. A pack of cigarettes would just taste so good right now and yet I don't want them. So it's just another day. But I really do appreciate every body listening and talking to me on this thread because for the next 10 weeks I am going to be going through this.

alright third day no cigarettes and I am on my third patch and it's going okay other people smoking around me does not bother me. I pulled a allnighter working on various projects.usually when I do something like this I smoke constantly but that hasn't been the case tonight or this morning. I will be taking 21 mg patches for six weeks and him for two weeks after that I will take a smaller dose and then for two weeks after that I will take the smallest dose and then finally I will be done and I will stop posting on here. And again thank you for everybody's support.

You'll be saviing enough $$$ by not smoking - but if you want to save on patches just cut the 21mg patches up. When I unsuccessfully tried patches mine were 28, 14 and 7 mg - all priced the same. a 28mg patch cut into 4 is 4 7mg patches. They're smaller and stay on easier as well.

The insurance pays for it, or well they are partnered up with a company that pays for it, so its awesome, LOL... They say not to cut the patches up, I think because the nicotine isn't distributed fully through the patch, so you will get different amounts of nicotine per mini-patch....

And if the patches dont work, they said that he can try another method of quitting smoking... All free too...

So yeah, we don't care about the cost of quitting, more of the cost of not.

To quit smoking one needs a lot of determination. Being able to handle both the spirit and the flesh. The spirit is always willing to quit smoking but the flesh is always shouting and saying "I WANT MORE. GIVE ME JUST ONE MORE". In most cases, the spirit gives in to the yearning of the flesh.

Train the spirit to always have the upper hand. Read more books that teach how to quit smoking, associate more with people who do not smoke and always have positive thoughts that it is possible to really quit smoking. That is the only way to train the spirit to always win over the flesh. It is natural in every human for the flesh to always desire things which are always wrong and could lead to physical damage to the body. When you nurture the spirit in the right way, you will quit smoking easily.

If patches don't work for you look into Advanced Laser Therapy. It has worked for me.

I am ex smoker so I have been there, but there is a very big reason too give up. It is REALLY hard - it is an addiction and it does not want to let you go, alot of the time it can be enjoyable and it appears to deprive stress. BUT it is killing you and no matter how hard it is to stop it will benefit you tO do so - think of it as a battle!

I know its hOrrible tohear and when I was a smoker I HaTED people dictating to me about stopping, but my girlfriend nagged me for about 6 months to stop - I hated her for going On, but she was the driving force that made me stop - and I'm so glad I did!!
 
I've quit for 7 years now and the thing that helped me through all the cravings and withdrawals was running. Go for a run. When your body sweats you're releasing alot of that anxiety and your body starts "feeling" healthier which reduces the need for a cigarette. Running also helps regulate your diet, which gets F*cked up when you start quitting, so it'll keep your body in balance.
 
I smoke like 10-15 cigarettes a day, for 3 years now. I quit last year during my 9-week school break, but on the first day of school i started again ^^

But tomorrow this year's 9-week school break starts and i will quit.

I won't use any patches or stuff...
I think you really need to want to quit, otherwise it won't work.

I will also do a lot of sports, go running etc. I think that will help a lot.
 
I work at a smoke shop, and have been smoking for about 8 years. This old guy that used to come in here EVERYDAY came in one day and told me he quit after smoking for almost 40 years.

I've been wanting to quit really bad lately, so this was a shock to me and I asked him how he did it. He said he used pills called shantex, and they give him about a month supply for about 130$. That's less than what I spend a month on cigarettes, so I'm really thinking about doing that.

the shit! i've been smoking for the last 15 years gawd.. i know the risk but i'm struggling to quit. i'd really have to look at this seriously.. i now feel the side effect..

You're obviously not a smoker. If you were, you'd know that just isn't possible.

4,665. That's how many cigs I would have smoked form February 19th until today had I kept smoking. And I LOVED smoking, even more than the average bear. You just need to make the choice and stick with it. It'll suck but you'll be thanking yourself down the road when the long term benefits are yours.
 
I tried cold turkey painkillers and cigarettes at the same time.

Not a great sight.

2 days ago i decided to quit quite randomly, i took the money i was gonna use for ciggs and bought a big nasty pizza rofl.
i still had about 2 half smoked ciggs so the real day i quit was yesterday.

I quit "snus" 2years ago, like snuff but instead of snorting it you put it under your lip, ahh the swedish gold :)
Anyway It was hard as hell took me like 1month to really get over all the psycological crap.
And then i begun smoking for real 3-4months after that.

Random advice for every quiting...
I heard from quite a few smokers that eating a popsicle helped them quit.
It does something psychologically due to the hand and oral fixation. Plus the sweetness does something chemically in the brain that isn't quit as awesome as nicotine but definitely helps.
I know a dude who eats a popsicle every time after he has sex haha... The girls are always like "WTF" but it helps with the quitting I heard.
I still smoke about a pack a day but if I decide to quit I heard popsicles are the way to go!
