    Hey,

We aren't sure if this is the right place to post, but here we are. Jason and I are at odds on if we should change our system. Personally, I (amanda) like windows better than mac. I just don't get mac os's.... They confuse me. I have heard things about linux, so I was considering that as well, as we have crashed... Well quite a few hard drives... and I broke a screen on a laptop (Don't ask. just connected a monitor to it.) So would it be easier on our systems to just run linux rather than windows? Would the programs I want to have (word processors, spreadsheets, databases, etc, along with im'ing programs.) Would it be easier on the hard drive than you know vista which is a resource hog.

Now Jason on the other hand, loves Mac. He has used it far more than I have, but I am concerned that it is better for a few parts of our needs, but not the whole. It is great for graphics, music, and videos, or so I have heard (like i said, im not good with macs). Jason says to get the same performance out of a pc as a mac, you would have to spend twice the money that a mac costs, ie: alienware. Which is his choice for windows based work. Now there are all kinds of custom pc and mac setups and three different operating systems at the moment.

So the questions is, what pc type do you use, what operating system do you like, etc. What would you suggest, as we are a music promotion company that does everything from internet marketing to muic recording (hence the disagreement in which way our systems should go)

This ought to be a very interesting thread, if a lot of people participate.

For hardware part, I like DIY desktop, I choose every single part myself, it's cost effective and I get what I want.

For software part, everyone loves MAC, but I never use it. I love Win Vista but I am using Win XP currently. I like windows because most applications are windows based.

I use Mac for anything web-development related. I can set up an environment that's virtually identical to the Linux servers where I actually host my sites, so I know that when I publish my scripts and files and Apache settings, they will work exactly as I intended.

Also it's a lot easier to automate stuff, so I can make one-click tools for a great many tasks.

I think the only advantage of Windows would be:

    A) If you use Microsoft hosting and want to keep your development environment parallel with your hosting environment; or

    B) If you use oddball applications that only exist for Windows.

Every application I've ever needed is on the Mac, so B hasn't been an issue for me. The one notable exception - Internet Explorer (for testing) I get around by using VirtualBox.

So out of the geeks in here, this is all i get??? LOL... Looks like jason is winning... LMAO, can you catch his fat ass with your knowledge, or are you SCARRRREEEED???? I don't like MAC's, I just can't get my head around how "easy (yeah right)" everyone thinks they are, it just doesn make sense... Really it doesnt. So is it the thought that we are going to have to get a computer that is purely jasons??? And me be stuck the fuck out if i want to use his programs??? Jason's gripe still is that to get a comparable pc to do what he wants it costs twice as much as a mac. and still doesn't par up to what he wants. so lets hear some more opinions. there are so many of us on here, why doesn't anyone have one, i mean, they are like assholes, everyone has one...LMAO
