Hi all,

I got a question about pinging. How important is it that you do it?
When you build a backlink, should you rightaway ping it?
What happens if you ping a link that has been built some time ago, any chance of google penalties here.

All the ping services i've seen seem to be for blogs. Can I / should I use them as well for links built on directories, social media, articles sites? Or just any link whatever?

I've been using pingfarm. Is there something better? Or should I use more than one service?

Sorry for the noobness of this post. Would be great if someone could make a sticky thread about pinging.

Thanks!

Well, if your backlink is already indexed, there is no benefit of pinging it again and again... Google won't crawl it multiple times.

You can use any pinging tool... Try with one service first. If not satisfied switch to another one.

i ping my main every article i publish on my site as a matter of course then add it to my evergrowing list.
I then ping that list once a month. And ping my main site everytime i post also. I doubt very much you will be penalised for pinging more than once, all pinging does is tell the serps that you have posted a new article so that the spiders come and crawl all over your post.
the same goes for my backlinks i always ping them after creating them and then maybe a month or so later if not indexed

Thanks,

How do you check if your backlinks are indexed, just by checking webmaster tools?

If you can afford it I would suggest scrapebox, I would say that's my favorite tool and you can check with that. If not you can always check if your links are indexed by going to google and typing site:yoursite.com and seeing if it's listed there. The only pinging I do is to my site when i have a new article, but that's just me. I do put links that aren't indexed into a rss feed and then I submit and ping that list but I don't directly ping the links. You can do all that at bulkping.com, that's my favorite site for all that. Hope it helps.
