So I baught an expired domain and used host gator for hosting but they said i have to wait 3 months to actually be able to use it. Is this the case with all expired domains and hosting service? Ima newbie to expired domains and any help would be appreciated

It depends. Where did you buy it? After a domain expires there is a grace period during which the owner can still renew it.

People have complained about buying an expired domain then having it taken away from them.

If it was "available" and you registered it then you should not have to wait. If you bought it "expired" from a registrar like Godaddy it's possible that there is still grace period time left for the original owner to renew it. If that happens then you would lose the domain.

I found it through expireddomains.net but used GoDaddy to actually buy and it appeared as "available" but once I got it onto host gator I called and they said I had to wait 2 months I believe to use it. So then this could because of that grace period you mentioned above?

Maybe. But I thought if it showed as "available" on expireddomains then it was outside the grace period and could be registered with any registrar. I've never had trouble with "available" domains there.

I thought domains that were expired but still in the grace period could only be sold by the registrar that held the registration.

Hostgator is your host, not the registrar so maybe ask them what the problem is.

oh okay yea I'll probably just contact them then to see what's up, anyways thanks for the help!
