Here is my question, maybe someone has an observation related to this.

I have a shopping cart, to target keywords more effectively I have used "buy product name" on every product, instead of just using "product name".

I have had some luck using this method but I'm curious if Google (post Panda and Penguin) sees this as over optimization and thus penalizes your site.

Please share your experiences.

Google typically views online retail sites differently. It knows that every product on the site will most likely have some similar content. For example, most products will have Buy Now button (or the equivalent). So, I don't think it will see what you are doing as over optimization.

I would recommend using the name of the product vs. buy and the name of the product. I have seen much better success just using the product name across several different ecommerce CMS softwares.

Thanks. I'm about to update all my titles and URLs and do some 301s. I will update this with my results.
