[QUESTION] Is this a common regular thing?

I felt curious to see the number of active members on the site and, to my surprise, I notice an extremely (in my opinion) number of "guests" (unregistered accounts) lurking in the forum so, I got even more curious to know if this is a common behavior?

And, if it is, don´t you think it needs to be addressed?

I feel like there´s something that needs to be done.

For example, prevent these guests/lurkers from using the advanced search feature of the forum.

I don´t know, but feel like we´re giving away too much valuable information for nothing and/or don´t incentivize people from ever joining the community.

What do you guys think?

At some point they will join to post, buy or ask for something.

I think it's a data question, how many each day convert from lurker to member?

Were we not all guests at one point looking to see if the forum was a good fit for us and us for the forum?

I think restricting a guest from normal forum cruising is a bit unwelcoming.

There are a lot of lukrers on BHW, but locking them out isn't the answer. Instead, If we want them to become members, we need to find out why they're lurking. For instance, if they're lurking because they're a white hat guy who just browses the forum to see what us silly black hat guys are doing to manipulate the SERPs, they're not going to sign up here.

Though as @BassTrackerBoats said above, all of us were lurkers here at one point or another. I must've lurked on the forum for a few months before I signed up. The staff can put more effort into convincing lurkers to sign up, but the community plays just as large of a role in whether or not someone will sign up here.

Lock guests out, and you will fck with the search engines in some way. So no, keep it as it is.
this. As they say, don’t fix things that aren’t broken. BHW’s Charm is in letting guests see free and valuable info, and deciding to join the forum. I don’t think we need to change it.

Guests, lurkers ought to be welcome. We all were once just lurking, but since BHW is awesome, we became members and some of us jr.vip. If our access as guests was severely restricted, we would not have been able to see the real value.

we´re giving away too much valuable information for nothing
We?
Do you want to get paid for that?
You should say the forum owner get nothing from that not we.
Also the owner earn money from every visitor member or guest since the ads is always there

I obviously (or I think it was obvious) meant the community when I said "we".

Sorry for not making it clear

It already is limited to some extent. Most of the people lurking are content with being passive participants.

If people only shared the 'good stuff' inside the VIP sections, that prevents people leeching @Roger Marquez , if that's what you mean.

Most people start as lurkers before they decide to join, so not good to lock them out. Furthermore, they click ads

There are a lot of sales threads with their contact information posted (skype, telegram, website, etc). For buyers, that's all they need after they read some reviews.

Also, when on my morning bathroom routing, I sometimes browse bhw from my phone without logging in. I can imagine there are more like me.

Sometimes it just sucks to login and complete that stupid cloudflare captcha when you remove all your cookies due to some incident last night.

We are giving, yeah. But BHW is a white hat website discussing black hat things. lol

Great responses above. Also I’d point out that the numbers would fluctuate depending on the time of day you’re on the forum for example as I write we’re at

To your point there is forum functionally that you can’t use if you’re not logged in. Check out the newbies guide for the benefits of membership. https://www.blackhatworld.com/forums/brand-new-to-bhw.261/

Asked - should we limit forum functionality to logged in members?
Answered - No we’re available to all (nice to see the vote agrees with our position).
