Yeah, it is. But there are also many other ranking factors like on-page SEO, backlinks, and page load time.

Domain Authority (DA) is a metric by Moz, and in my opinion the worst metric of it's type (DR is much more reliable from Ahref).
It's not a Google metric, it's the tool / softwares best guess of Google's opinion on your backlink profile. Back in the day, Google used to give you a PageRank out of 10, and all these tools are trying to emulate that, but they all have different formulas to provide a rating.

wait, do you mean MOZ's metric called DA, or the literal authority of a domain (which I don't know how it's calculated exactly, but it's a formula between number and quality of RDs, domain's age and history, the strength and popularity of the brand associated with that domain, and other things)?
If we're talking about MOZ's score then no, DA is not a ranking factor. The real authority of a domain is a real factor, though as you can see for yourself when you're looking stuff up in google and see the same (big / popular) brands coming up over and over again no matter how relevant their pages are to the keyword you're searching for. Well, to be fair to google, most of the pages that rank are relevant to the keyword, but there are some rotten apples here and there

Domain authority may be worth optimizing, nonetheless, and backlinks from high authority domains, does often work well in SEO efforts.

there are a lot of scammers promoting increasing your metrics but that does not impact SEO. If you see their websites, they have DA 70+ but no traffic , they rank for 0 keyowrds. What does it tells us? That those metrics are used by the tools like Ahrefs and Moz just for internal orientation nothing else.

Not in the context of a Moz metric. It's flimsy. They're going & have been going downhill for awhile though.
Ahrefs has a better ranking system for authority. Take a look at this & give it a read, it explains a more thorough way of rating a domain's authority: https://ahrefs.com/blog/dr-score/

DA is manipulated so much now a days, Few services in marketplace help you get high DA in 30+ days so don't go buy it, I would recommend work on quality links for steady increase in ranking.

I say at this moment authority is the main ranking factor in G search.
