[Question] Authority Site SEO

Hey guys,
I started a authority site last last month and I've been posting content (not getting ranking though, for now).
I'm a little skeptical about how to build link to a authority site. I don't want to do aggressive link building as I don't Goolge to penalize me once I go big (if).
What methods do you suggest for building links for authority site?
I Had an idea, can you guys tell that if it's whitehat, greyhat, or blackhat.

If I make a account on my authority site's name at sites like
Hubpages
Squidoo
Etc
And post unique and HQ content there and every once in a while I get a backlink from there. Will you consider it black/white or grey hat?
Should I do this?

I would start with meathed123 $100 a day method. Its not what it sounds like. Mathewwoodword is good too once you get past the aff links, good ideas there.

Building links can help in ranking but for Authority type site you need good amount of quality content on site before you start building links. Do not use any spammy techniques that will hurt you.
Utilize social media......find exactly where your targeted audience hang out. It may be FB, Twitter or Pinterest or may be something else. Find it out. And be aggressive on these social media sites. Get real fan following.

Find out INFLUENCETIAL writers in your niche...pay them and ask them to write on your site. Once they write for you ...politely ask them to share that article on their social profiles and traffic will follow.

Social Bookmarking , article Submission , Directory Submission are The Best techniques now a Days

Using web 2.0s to build links is not so blackhat, but I would advise you to submit those articles on relevant sites in your niche as guest posts instead and do some link outreach for new pieces of content published on your site to gain some natural links.

I'm quite skeptical about guest posting about matt cutt's post on Guest blogger? Am I good to go?

What I would do, and have done a bunch of times, is to just build content so that you have no less than 100 articles on your site before you do any kind of backlinking. Then I would add in some very light social bookmarking and social media to some of the older pages.

After you get up to a couple hundred pages, start doing some generic backlinks... Web 2.0s, maybe some forum posts, some backlinks from other related sites in the form of comments and such.

Once you hit the 400 article mark then you can start being a little aggressive and hitting the site with some stronger SEO.

In no way would I be adding articles 5 a day or anything like that until you are over 800 articles or so either as that is another way that makes it look like you are doing something that you ought not to be doing in google's eyes.
