Question about payment processors

I have been going through the process of selecting a processor to use with my e-commerce site, throughout my research i keep coming to the conclusion that paypal is the way to go. i have seen processors like 2checkout being recommended but their fees are way higher than paypal so why would i use them? Another reason im thinking of going with paypal is customers might feel safer purchasing through a paypal gateway as opposed to a random gateway they haven't heard of before. The average person probably doesn't know what 2checkout or authorize . net is but they probably recognize paypal's name.

What do you guys think? What has been your experience using lesser known payment gateways or paypal itself?

Just use PayPal. They're the most used P2P system online and by offering it on your site will instill a feeling of safety with your potential buyers/customers as most online buyers use PayPal and they know they're protected.

Authorize.net would be something you implement seamlessly on your website with one of their APIs so customers stay on your site. A vast amount of online stores use it. It doesn't matter if your customers know what it is since they won't leave your site.

IMO, I think the customers knowing that they'd be checking out with PayPal would be better then them not knowing who would be processing their payment. As I mentioned, PayPal brings a feeling of security and comfort to users (Both Buyers & Sellers) and since it's so widely used I think it'd be the best option for you to choose.

thanks for the input. that was along the lines of what i was thinking, i wouldnt want to loose a sale because people dont feel safe checking out

You might want to consider two options, PayPal being one of them. I have come across many customers who don't like PayPal, but will use something like Authorize.net. Personally, I prefer PayPal, but you gotta give the customers what they want.

When you are choosing paypal, be sure what you customers might expect and trust. Meanwhile one of customer had some problems with paypal and it took 1month for me to get the payment. make it easy to your customers, i have lost many business with Indian clients due to paypal restrictions.
