Hello,

Recently, I was approached through email by a high DA site that was asking for me to link to one of their articles because it is related.

However, i know their site well, it's ranking well, high DA, with some good backlinks and related in the same niche as I.

So i'm thinking of suggesting a link exchange, this would be my first link exchange ever.

So my question is, if I proceed forward with this, Do i risk any Google penalty with?

Thanks

Link exchange is good as long as a site doesn’t link back to the same site it received a link from. Otherwise, a penalty will be inevitable. You give them a link from your site-A and ask them to give a link from their site to your site-B (ofc both of your site-A and B must not be interlinked, that’s kinda obvious).

Thank you so much for your answer.

I didn't think interlink between my own sites can also be picked up by Google. They are getting smarter wow, i got to watch out :o

I hired a VA to do this for me and the set up got messed up as above and Google banned, messaged to get it back but yeah definitely be careful

Don't know whether Google is going to like your backlinks or not but, Here is a piece of small information for all readers. DA is not a criteria for Google to judge any website since it is developed by MOZ. So if you think that a high DA website must have to be great before the eyes of Google...then you are wrong mate.
"Good websites should have high DA but a website with High DA does not indicate that it must have to be great"...the bitter truth.

Sure I understand that. But that high metric must be coming from somewhere by moz. That means that it detected some strong backlinks that it made it assess a certain site if it should have a high DA or not. But I hear you!

Yes, link exchange is good, if you're doing it on a right way.

And don't decide av quality of a site only with DA metrics, cause it can be easily manipulated. The best way to check it by analysing the root domains of the respective sites if you find many google redirect links, then it is termed to be manipulated

Be on the safe side, ask for a link exchange to one of your tier 1 backlinks

Link exchange is good. Before exchange, analyze the site regarding good metrics, tier 1 link, high quality content and so on.

Link exchange is good ...but check more about the sites, matrix, content etc,,
so that will help you better.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind!

What do you mean by "google redirect links"? Are you referring to backlinks that are using redirecting domains?

Google redirect links are Google proprietorship websites, a type of backlinks that helps to boost your metrics
If you click those links, you reach the same redirected page of which Google uses

google redirect links

Why would google ban a site for a link to another site which it has a backlinks from. Do you know how many links do imdb and metacritic have between them? Isn't it organic for two sites to have tens/hundreds of links between each other?

Thanks! But do You mean sites or domains with no actual content that are redirecting to the site? Because I still don't get the idea, i couldn't find anything on "Google proprietorship websites "

Examples of Google redirect links

google dot kz
google dot ge

I don't mind the odd link exchange, especially if the site is higher authority than mine, but don't over do it

Link exchanges should only be a really small portion of your overall link profile.
