Hi,

I am currently trying to drive people towards my website that are selling second hand items. I have noticed that i get a fair few link clicks and views. but the amount of contacts we are getting seems to be outragously low.

would this be an issue with the website or the ads mainly?

I will be honest I have no real idea about how t o run FB ads its all new to me and im trial and erroring it.

This is a very common issue, and in most cases it’s not just the ads or just the website—it’s the mismatch between intent, tracking, and funnel setup.

Here’s how to diagnose it properly:
1. Likely ad-side issues
  • If you’re optimizing for link clicks or traffic, Facebook will send clickers, not buyers or people who message.
  • Broad targeting without intent signals often drives curiosity clicks, especially for second-hand items.
  • Creative may attract interest but not qualified buyers (price expectations, condition, trust).
2. Likely website-side issues
  • Weak or unclear call-to-action (people don’t know what to do next).
  • Too many steps to contact you (forms, slow load, no visible contact option).
  • Lack of trust signals (reviews, clear pricing, photos, location).
3. What to fix first (fast wins)
  • Switch optimization to Messages, Leads, or Conversions (not traffic).
  • Make the contact action obvious (WhatsApp, Messenger, phone button).
  • Pre-qualify in the ad (price range, condition, pickup/shipping).
  • Use retargeting for visitors who viewed items but didn’t contact you.
Bottom line:
You’re getting clicks because Facebook is doing what you told it to do—but without proper optimization and a friction-free contact flow, clicks won’t turn into inquiries. Fix the objective and funnel first, then refine creatives.

It’s likely a mix of both, so start by improving the website’s clarity and trust signals while tightening ad targeting and messaging to better match buyer intent.

It seems like the issue could be with the advertising strategy on Facebook rather than the website itself. Since you mentioned that you are new to running FB ads and trying trial and error, it might be helpful to research more about effective advertising techniques on the platform. Good luck!

yea i might have the ad setup incorrectly, we have a good amoutn of call to action on the wbesite once people land (Phone, Email, Contact form) so I do not think that is the issue ((I could of course be wrong)) the steps is 1 click once they click any of the call to actions (or 3 for the contact form)

I guess my issue is that i was running on traffic for landing page views, which seems to go for quantity over quality, so I would have to mess with that.

I encountered this problem before. You can set up a campaign with a crosshair, wait for results after 1-2 days, and reset the Pixel for better results. You need to build a customer file on Pixel.
