Does anyone know how important it is to have the correct UPC when making detailed product creation pages on Amazon with the Pro Merchant account? I have a couple of products that I want to put on Amazon that dont have UPC codes. Will they catch on, and if they do what are the consequences? I know I should go to egay, but I am not to that goal yet. Amazon support said that I must have the UPC for the product to post on Amazon, or else it is not allowed? I will give thanks to anyone who helps.

Hi there, in general i do not believe they are actually checking the UPC codes with some sort of database. For starters, the response time is extremely fast. Also, if you enter in a UPC code that is already in use with an other listing, Amazon will force you to jump on to that Product Page or edit your listing.I believe that Amazon just checks that the code meets all of the patterns of a UPC Code but does not actual verify or look them up. SO, to answer your question, as long as the UPC code is is of valid composure and is not being used by another product already, it should be perfectly fine. I have done this multiple times. Figuring this out saved me a lot of time.

Also, penalty would generally just be an invalid production information notice of some sort. Especially if your account is aged. If you are young, you might be giving them a reason to review/suspend your account. But dont worry, this happens to everyone.

I guess Gemini's question finally got answered huh :saevilw:
