Question about 301 redirect and backlink checkers

Hello,

I own two really powerful domains for a few years now. Was going to use them for a niche website but I didn't have time to set up everything so I was just saving these domains for later use.

Now I want to make 2 niche sites (since these domains are in different niches) 301 these domains to a new brandable domain and add content.

My question is once I 301 redirect these domains to a brand new domain and go to lets say ahrefs and enter the new domain, will it show stats of the old domain since it's 301 redirected?

To explain better let's say I have a domain name uglyname.com which has DR 55 and 10k backlinks and a brand new domain beautifulwidgets.com which has DR 0 and 0 backlinks, once I 301 redirect uglyname.com to beautifulwidgets.com and check beautiful widgets in the ahrefs will it have DR 55 and 10k backlinks or DR 0 and 0 backlinks?

That's an interesting question. I have done a fair bit of 301's and I'm still not sure how it affects 3rd party metrics, although to be fair I haven't done much for testing and keeping track of that. I just look at the traffic and $$$ afterwards as my measures of success/failure.

The thing is, I want to slowly build those niche websites, but I want to scoop up some $$ from guest posts. That's why I need this new domain to have the same metrics as the old one that's 301 redirected.

Does any1 know the answer to this question?

Since I haven't got any answer here I've posted the same question on several fb groups and I still can't find the answer, some say 3rd party metrics will show the old domain stats some say it won't.

Common, I'm sure there are people here who know exactly what will happen, where are you?

These are really powerful domains that probably worth $5k+ and I don't want to fck things up...

yes, initially DR will not be 55 but gradually it will increase, I suggest you do 301 redirect to niche related to the old site only.

From my own experience, what worked better for me was:

- Reactivate and place a mini-site on ugly.com (keep the content closely related).
- Once indexed, simply place a link in homepage content to beautiful.com. I use to put 5-10 articles on the site, just to make it appear legit and whatnot.

You also pass some additional relevance in this way to the new project (content being in the same niche)

The good part: You can also link to a couple of your other projects as well, later in the line. 2-3 links are not a PBN. So you get to pass juice to more than one project, while via a 301 you would pass to only one.

You also get to keep the domain live and explore it a little, maybe it lives for another day and turns into something else.
