Quality backlinks vs quantity in current ranking factors

Quality over quantity is still the ultimate rule for link building. A single contextual link from a niche-relevant site passes significantly more authority and trust than dozens of low-quality, generic Web 2.0 links.

I always prefer quality over quantity when building links. One strong, relevant backlink can make a big difference. Contextual links from niche related sites carry more value.
Dozens of random, low quality links usually will not compare. Relevance and trust should always come first.

i totally agree with that. in the current scenario, relevance and the total quality of the website are way more important than just the number of backlinks. a few backlinks from good nd rellevant websites are more useful than several hundred links. however, quantity is not something to be overlooked altogether after getting quality.
 
Yeah I'd focus on relevance and real traffic first. One strong niche relevant link is usually better than dozens of low quality ones.
