Qi Gong?

Not all martial arts comes from the east, there are alot of western martial such as boxing and wrestling that do not descend from tai chi.

Only as 'west' as Greece ... Well, modern day boxing comes from the United Kingdom, but it was practiced many many years before in Greece, and so was wrestling

After looking into it,gun fighting is the only martial art developed in the United States.

In the united states where so many criminals use weapons it makes more sense to learn a martial arts based on firearms then it is something like karate if you really want to defend yourself. But It's even better to be good in both firearms training and hand to hand martial arts. The only problem is that 99% of all the schools that teach eastern martial arts are so commercialized and geared towards scamming parents you will not learn to really defend yourself.

Been studying it for years. Smart martial artists know that "hard qigong" (breaking boards, bricks, etc.) is a lower level of practice. After all the brcks don't hit back and the damage occurences are high. Even more dangerious is condtioning yourself for iron palm by hitting parts of your body tens of thousands times against hard objects for toughening. Those exercise are combined with qi projection but upon striking the hard object in high rep you run the risk of arthritis and heart attack. They violently shove qi back up the limb into the heart with violent intent. Not a good look!

On the other hand Wudang Iron Palm and Dim Mak (death touch) cultivation required nothing more than chi kung (breath work) and nei kung (internal work). Nei Kung is far more advanced than Qi Gong. It's one of China's greatest treasures. Nei Kung masters build the internal body by building up their tendons and ligaments which are on average ten times as dense as muscle mass. Do the math. A 250 pound body builder versus a 110 pound nei kung master is actually a martial child fighting a martial adult. 110 pounds of tendon and ligament power is actually 1,100 pounds of pressure versus 250. The nei kung man's greatest concern should be not to kill the weightlifter

Its not that weightlifters don't develop tendons and ligaments somewhat. Its that 85% of their focus is on muscular mass instead of grounding (learning the physics of immovability leverage), superior flexibility, cultivation of the organs, mastering breath control (breath is life and sheer energy and he who masters it wins) and superior whole devlopment. The western bodybuilding industry spends millions on how to synthesize hormones that nei kung reaches naturally. The Asians are fortunate to still have the knowledge of natural exercises and herbs to access any hormone they chose.. They can even blow up to football player size if they choose with certain bone marrow and testosterone nei kung. .

Wudang holds the secrets of man's heavenly development. They received it from India and Tibet who received it from South American and Africa. By the way Wudang has the secret of stem cell research. They've had it for thousands of years. Shaolin doesn't have it. Elderly Karate men and those from Shaolin are notorious due to their bad health, canes, crutches and wheelchairs when elderly and many don't live long. 90 years is considered young for a internal Wudang man or woman. Nei Kung produces stem cell and heals almost every ill. Tradionally Kung Fu was practiced by sick men who could not afford treatments from the accupuncture master's golden needles. Usually their village was so poor they sold the golden needles for food. The sick had to learn Tai Chi, Nei Kung and kung fu instead and became unto supermen!

If this was really real, then why wasn't China able to defeat the British easily in the 1800's?

My point exactly. Qi Gong & nei kung are for healing and fitness in the pure sense. Not for breaking things and being a tough guy and it certainly doesn't make you bullet proof.

I had an acupuncture treatment about a year ago, and I could feel an undeniable energy swirling around my feet. Awesome experience.
I found some Qi Qong exercises online and did them and I could feel that same energy although not as strong in my stomach. It is very real. Read "The Holographic Universe" if you think this stuff is just BS. The book is awesome and will change the way you look at the world. It is well documented/sourced too.

Wiz man we have to hang out some day, I continue to be impressed/surprised at the amount of interests we share(from reading the forum over the years). Your sig is from "The Alchemist" right? Love that book.

Great post SilentTHunder, +REP

I am a Chinese. I think Qi Gong is "over advertised" in the western world. According to chinese traditional culture, Qi Gong is actually some regular excercises to help people saty healthy, fit and live long(er). Don't think you can challenge Mike Tyson by practising Qi Gong, it is not about that.

Nowadays you can probably challenge Mike Tyson by asking him to run around the block! :p
