Protocol for giving REP

The Rep system means nothing any more on BHW. We have some
members who have 6000 and 7000 rep points, yet they just post
junk in the Lounge.

+Rep points used to be given when someone made an exceptionally
valuable post and -Reps used to be given when someone did something
really bad or outrageously stupid. Such is not the case any more.

R.I.P to the REP . . .

You have the right to give rep to anyone for anything.

But I hate members get 5-6k rep points for posting shit in the Lounge.

I think only Jr.VIPs (and higher) should be able to give rep.

In this way, we would be able to detect truly valuable people here.

I like to give rep for new members if they are smart and not beginners with stupid questions. I like to see if they read before create a thread

I think the protocol is, if people make threads about rep, then you must rep them and neg rep them to see if they finish higher or lower when the rep thread comes to an end.

Rep for junk in the lounge that brightens up your day or just because of the title under your name is all the same in my book. I like all the guys in the 6000-7000 rep range and think they all well deserve the rep they have. :)

I hope not everyone thinks like you! haha. I only asked because I was curious of what others thoughts on this were.

Damn, I've been busted.

+rep to mickyfu for the great game idea, I envisage that OP will remain on positive rep, maybe I am getting soft in my old age.

This is what I have noticed, yet I think the game is only played out on threads which are more based around the "Why Did I Get Neg Reped" theme. You see some people come in and feel sorry for them and give them rep, but others get sick of seeing the same old rep whoring threads and neg rep them. Last time I seen one of these threads I think the OP ended up seriously in the red.

I give rep when I damn well feel like it. Impres me, make me laugh, point out something I missed, do something good for the forum or a member, help someone out of difficulties, be generous, and you will get rep from me.

I never give rep to anyone who asks for it, even if I would have if they hadn't asked for it.

That's why you're an Elite Member! I like the way you think +rep!

After reading through all the comments it is obvious that there is no one answer. Everyone has there opinions and views on how/why/where/when to give rep. In my case, I have not given out a lot of rep because I only have given it when something has really helped me out or enlightened me. I judge members by the quality of their posts anyway. Definitely not by their post count/rep/thanks/etc.

I give rep to members who contribute something useful to the forum, and I neg rep those who post false information as absolute fact, misleading all the newbies that read it (I was mislead in so many directions when I first started).

I only started using the rep system in 2013 even though I've been a member since Jan 2010. The reason is because I always kind of felt like it was just some popularity contest that I didn't want to take part in. It wasn't until I had adequate knowledge of SEO that I was able to notice the people giving horrible advice and info to newbies.

These are the biggest rep whores on bhw with the smalltest knowledge about IM trying to sell their BST thanks to their Reps.
Like Wiz posted there is/was one JrVip loved by the community with over 6k rep points (by posting high profitable methods) who was unable even to earn his rent via IM and tried many times to open a BST which also failed. And such a guy who is in REALITY making nada/zero is getting 6k rep points from the community for posting high profitable methods(garbage) and being protected by morons who claim he is king if somebody says the truth about his methods.

I could have rep -1000 i wouldnt care as you can read really quickly out who is a real professional and who not.

rep was at the beginning for very useful methods which worked .Today you can collect rep for any shit you post even rehased bullshit

Personally I positive rep when someone give something constructive or I enjoy the post.

I neg rep when posts state "rep is appreciated" or someone makes a thread complaining about rep or trying to justify rep or if someone trys to bully someone else about rep. I also neg rep when someone quotes a long ass fucking post to give a one sentence response.

I use "thanks" as an " I Agree" or basically informing the poster I enjoyed the post although it did not hold any substantial value to me personally. It beats the whole quote-I agree, thanks situation.

You know so much for somebody who says they weren't previously banned.
Or did you just learn everything since June 2013

You are lucky today as
You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later.

Also looking at ALL your previous posts under the account Vrill doesn't show you posting ANYTHING of value or adding anything to the community.

It will be interesting finding out who you really are and if you posted anything useful under your old account.

I usually give back +rep, and I don't expect +rep back. Just because I like to give +rep back doesn't mean other members should feel the same way and nobody should judge them for that. After all everyone gives +rep whenever they want, to whoever they want and for whatever they want.

I +rep posts that I like and/or consider helpful, and I also +rep members who I admire and/or have a great respect for.
