Profile backlinks - still got linkjuice?

I Scrapebox blast one particular domain every day or so, with the main purpose being building a decent auto approve list to use on my other sites. (I don't care what happens to this one)

This site is slowly coming up in ranking in Google - it is now at #19 overall for a two word phrase. Granted, it's only 3k/month exact match in kw tool, $1.50 cpc.

I've done nothing with this domain except put up one post (is a free hosted blog even) and blast away. And I actually haven't been blasting it heavily for long, maybe the last 3 weeks consistently. The domain is only 2 months old.

Comment spam still works on mine.

1) Google prefers links which come from non user-generated sources. This is why I build huge blog networks with unique content. Links from these blogs really pack a punch.

But..

2) User-generated links still work. Comment spam, forum spam, even profile links (albeit slightly) work to push your site up the rankings. As an active SEO I can see the proof every day. Even into the long term, these links can still exert power.

I personally think that nofollow links are worth very little - especially if they are coming from the name field of a comment. However, other forms of comment spam work wonders.

Basically google doesn't like links that were created by people other than the webmaster. Stuff like profile links, forum signatures, blog comments are easily detected in google. Google knows people go around using xrumer to spam forums and blogs, so google just ignores those links.

From my experience getting those types of links don't do anything for me. Getting blog post links, link exchange and buying links is what has worked for me.

I think the only reason people still use those methods is because at one point doing that type of link building did work. However, google is constantly getting smarter and smarter each day. They devote alot of time making sure no one gets an unfair advantage. The most effective seo is that which google thinks the webmaster placed it there, for example, a blogroll link, a blogpost link etc. People think that ALL links are counted and that is simply not true. People will say, "well a backlink is a backlink and over time, that link gets better." Well, if google COMPLETELY IGNORES that link then how is that helping you out?

i think profile links still work but not as well as they used to

I agree while they may not have the same effect as they once did....its always important to throw some diversity at google and get a ton of different types of links i.e. profile, 2.0, forum, articles...also adding so no-follow links will help also in diversifying links so that it looks as natural as possible in Goggle's eyes.

build your own profile lists.
go for forums which have 2,3,4,5 or more spam filters(captcha,image selection,stupid questions).register on them by hiring someone and see the magic in just 150-200 links(if moderate competition),greater than 700-800 links(if higher competition)

Just because you spammed a bunch profile links/comments and reached the top spot for "4 slice toaster" doesn't mean those links got you the top spot. Most of the time, a well written, optimised piece of content is responsible for getting you there, not the links. People mistakenly assume there is a connection but there isn't.

Do a test instead of regurgitating the opinions of others. Pick a random phrase such as "my 155 slice toaster is the best in the world". Create 2 pages on the same domain targeting that phrase.

On the first, place a well written article that won't receive backlinks and on the second, place one of lesser quality which you will throw your profile/comment links at.

In my own tests, the better quality article outranks the low quality article with profile/comment links. You know why most people don't test? It takes effort and these products require very little effort to use. It's a match made in heaven.

Lets think about how profile links are used in a legitimate manner. If you participate on multiple forums, chances are you use the same username and link to the same website from each account.

The vast majority of people don't create a different username at different forums when their intention is to contribute and participate in the discussion. I'm sure with all the data Google has, they're aware of what a typical link looks like from a legitimate user.

Same account name, same link, regular visits and contributions to the discussion. While I've not tested it, I would guess that it's better to use the same username with using profile links but still very low value overall.

I've used profile link building services and comment software in the past but I no longer use them for the intent of building backlinks. As Micallef mentioned, building up your own blog network with unique content is a much better means to source links.

Sure, you might not get links in quantity but you'll have quality/authoritative ones and that's all that matters.

thats what i said dont use spammed to death lists and there are ways to index all your profiles within 24 hours.combine these both and then see.
edit:btw i use profiles in loan niche with SOC of greater than 200.
