Hello BHW ;), firstly as I would like to say a big thanks to all the people in this forum for the great content in here, this forum was a milestone in my journey to learn all those "magic" tricks.

Now unfortunately I encounter a problem while I build my backlinks. In many occasions my href returns my site as follows:
original: www (dot) my-site (dot) gr
what I get if I click on it: www (dot) my-site (dot) xn--gr-02t

Can someone please explain to me why this is happening? thanks in advance! :rolleyes:

Just google your problem and got this article.
with respect to domain names, it is very important to make sure you not only lock down a roman character version, but the native language aequivalent as well. So for example in Japan, if your brand was called Blue Suede Shoes, you would want to make sure you picked up the roman character version of the URL; www dot aoisuedo-kijinokutsu dot jp but JUST as important is to make sure you purchse the Japanese character equivalent, which would be xn--n8j7dthnc1dzov47usb8bel8c7ja dot jp ... looks spamy doesnt it :) But if you paste the Japanese characters into your browser: 青いスエード生地の靴 and add the dot jp extension, that mess of letters and numbers is UTF-8 equivalent of the URL andmore importantly the common route a native Japanese speaker would take to get to your website unless using a seearch engine.

Thanks for this! i tried to google but I did not find something useful ("xn--" confused google search) ,

so if i understand correct i must change the font coding of my browser language to utf-8?

And about my opinion :
Not really sure.
When i first saw that i thought you should do something with your domain masking/forwarding
After that i thought that maybe this code is a way for google to understand that site content is in greek.
