...But I still have control of 2 domains through my registrar. I don't know what happened exactly, but the guy managing StressFreeHost, (he sold on BHW too), just sort of disappeared and cannot be contacted. I have contacted my domain registrar. I would just transfer the domain to another host, but I need the current host's approval. Interesting situation anyway, I am able to put up content on the block, which seems normal, I've had the domain for about 12 years.

They kind of went south. I had a few domains there as well but moved them a while back.

You are probably going to have to rebuild the sites on a new host using archive.org or some other site that has your history.

I can log in to the domains and make backups, just cannot log in to hosting.

Make those backups and move them.

I doubt that the host is ever going to come back.
I'm not sure I can, don't I need access to that hosting account that was stolen? That's the whole deal.

If you have taken backups just move to a new hosting. Looking back at their BHW thread, seems like a :poop: host.

They weren't a bad host, not for me, not for a number of years, just something happened to the guy, or he just took the money and ran, I dunno. But what happens if my new host points the domain to one IP, while the current host is pointing to a different IP?

you need the domain transfer auth code to transfer the domain to another hosting provider. If you have no access to the hosting panel and the owner is not available anymore it looks very bad for you :(

Your registrar controls the IP address. You can change that in 30 seconds.

Did you register the domains with Stressfree or a different party?

Thanks, you understand the problem. Domain was not worth that much anyway.
what you can try is to check the whois of your domain and contact the registrar and tell the situation. If you have registered your domain with the correct private contcat details you can send maybe your ID card and they will support you with the transfer process

The current hosting, not StressFreeHost, won't deal with me. they "must protect the owner" - who is probably a thief. Yet I can indeed change the nameservers in the domain registrar account so...
