I personally use privacy over fake details because I run an actual company and all of those domains are owned by the company. Besides, there are tens of millions of domains that use privacy and there are plenty of legitimate reasons to do so - such as preventing spam to your registered email address or your physical address. This is one area where I believe the footprint is simply something I have to live with but I don't worry too much about it especially if you diversify with other backlinks like the previous answer alluded to.

Using one strategy won't get you far in any type of marketing. Making fake who is information is fraud at the end f the day and will only lead to drama. Also you need to diversify your links: comment on some blogs and give useful information, create some web 2.0 links, create a special need for a press release, do some guest blogging to receive no-follow links, try and find some people asking about the product you sell in Q&A forums. Mix things up a bit and you'll be surprised how the authority of a website can skyrocket.

If your website has backlinks coming only from sites with their whois details hidden, Google might suspect you of link manipulation, that's why it's always recommended that you get a variety of link types, not just PBN links.
So as the PBN whois privacy enabled sites are linking to your site, other links from web 2.0 sites, guest posts, blog comments, etc. will also be pointing to your site from mostly domains without whois privacy, thus diversifing your link profile.
A good mix of fake names, private whois and different registrars is the way to go, you don't want to have every site linking to you with private whois, that in itself is a footprint.

No, Lots of people use privacy protection to keep their domains safe from hackers. If you dont have PP there is chance that your domain may get hijack.

The questions itself leads to a concern that you probably need to spend time more on securing your PBN and worry less about Google. The only mantra to have a successful PBN is diversity and not have same characteristics on all your participating sites within it, whether its whois, cms, permalinks whatever.....
