You can get a free phone number from google voice (you even can pick your area code) and forward it to your cell phone. You will receive both calls and sms. I've had 3 different google voice # forwarded to my phone for years now and never had an issue.

Google Voice works for a lot of purposes, but it ain't free if you reside outside the US, because you'll need a US private proxy and a US phone number to verify the account, those both cost money. But why would you need Google Voice for verification when you already have or purchased a US phone number?
Although you can get a Google Voice account for $1-$2.
