Well there is nothing much you can do about it. Just keep on building authoritative backlinks and take a premium account at ahrefs to keep an eye on your backlinks. Incase, of any unnatural link building, add the links to the disavow sheet ASAP.

Build site better than your competitor's ones, and make better backlinks than his ones. Then you may not afraid of negative SEO.

You could aim for other keywords at the same time, so when you get to the first page you should have a lot more authority and be more resistant to neg SEO.
