Google next big update is going to target non-mobile friendly sites and is expected to roll out April 21, 2015, and roll out for a few days to a week.
This is a big one, and could affect a large portion of your traffic.

Here?s What?s Going On:

In the last few years, mobile traffic has increased dramatically. It?s speculated that more than 50% of Google searches are performed on mobile.
Even Google is saying this update is going to have a bigger effect on search rankings than Panda or Penguin, the biggest updates Google has ever launched, as quoted by a member of Google?s Webmaster Trends team, Zineb Ait Bahajji at SMX Munich.
The problem is many sites are not responsive, meaning that they were only built for desktop computers and are hard to navigate on mobile devices.

Google doesn?t want to serve up results that are not user friendly, so they are implementing a new algorithm change to demote sites that aren?t usable on phones and tablets.
On a positive note, if your site IS mobile friendly, google will add a little tag to it.

If you have clients, this is a GREAT time to upsell them on a new website (money in the bank and rankings preserved)

How To Find Out If You Will Be Affected

Google has officially announced the update and it?s coming on April 21, 2015 so you still have time to prepare your site.
Here?s how to find out if you are mobile friendly or not:

1) Webmaster Tools
Google has been sending out messages via webmaster tools for all affected sites, but if you don?t have webmaster tools installed, you wouldn?t get a warning.

2) Google Mobile Friendly Test
You can also check your site using this tool, https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/. Just plug in your domain and Google will tell you if it thinks you are mobile friendly or not.

3) Quick Personal Mobile Test (Bust out your phone)
You can also just search for your site on your mobile phone, and see if Google displays a mobile friendly tag.

What To Do If Your Site Is Not Mobile Friendly

Google has said there is no degree of mobileness, it?s either yes or no.
For many people, this is super easy to fix ? If you?re using WordPress and your site isn?t mobile responsive, you probably have an OLD theme and it?s time to update the design of your website anyways.
All you have to do is install a new ?responsive? them, test again, and you?ll be good to go!

I was able to take an old website of mine which didn?t pass the Google Mobile test, add a new theme, and viola, problem solved in less than 3 min.

I made a simple program that checks whether all the competitor websites are mobile-friendly and keeps track of them, and I have quite a few that are not mobile friendly. I am interested to see what happens after the update & whether I move up against them.

That's definitely good news and you'll thankfully have nothing to worry about then. I wonder how many people are going to use this to make money by offering this as a service.

That's a nice little piece of software. According to what they are saying about this future update it should certainly move your site up past theres. Especially if your only behind them by a little bit.

If any of you used godaddy to create your sites I'm pretty sure that they're all mobile compatible so there's nothing to worry about .

3 days until the update. Hope everyone took care of any site problems and has anyone here made any money from this update? I'm hoping some people saw the potential and cashed in.

I got the notification that my rankings could go down but since I get traffic from another sources nothing really changed. Saw 300 less visits which isnt too much since the other option was to make the website bearable useful to make money from mobile

That's why it's always best to diversify like that. And the change over is usually pretty easy to do.

My sites seem to be getting more traffic after this update, some of my competition aren't using a mobile friendly theme.

It bugs me that my phone and tablet are getting clogged with apps that are nothing more than little one-trick web browsers. Optimized web sites will not clog storage and will be updated in the cloud, where they belong. Apps should be for services that really need to be locally installed.

Yeah, luckily it will be very easy for most ppl to fix this little problem. But I'm also wondering how many people already cashed in on this before it happened by offering a service to others to make their websites mobile friendly. It can still continue to work right now actually.
Even if it changes too much Ill just make the changes, it should be a 5 minute work

Zero effect. This update was pure bullshit. Makes me think it was cover for other goings on.

Contrarily, I saw pretty good movement thanks to this update.

Sure it's not instant page one rankings but it sure did do a lot of the work for me.

That's exactly it and why it was important to get all of our sites ready in advance. They undoubtedly saw a drop in their rankings.

I also didn't see much of a change, either. Interestingly enough, my rankings for one site are pretty much the same (possibly even slightly worse), although the number of visitors dropped quite a bit on the 21st. However, the number of unique visitors the site usually has just went back to normal today, so it was probably just normal fluctuation.

Luckily I don't mess around with too many apps no my devices to cause any concern. But every true marketer on here already had their sites mobile friendly since more people are surfing on cell phones than laptops now.
