As I'm quite a newbie to this kind of stuff, I would really appreciate a honest opinion.

What I know so far about PR:
- The higher the better (PR 10 = max).
- People want to buy backlinks to PR4+ domains.
- High PR domains sell for more (not sure about PR4/5).

After reading: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...s-make-1-5k-per-month-fiverr-easy-method.html (which I'm taking with a grain of salt, although it seems 100% possible) I am willing to give it a try.

Found an expired (not expiring) domain (can register it at Godaddy @regular price), PR4, other stats are (according to checkpagerank) totally worthless (PR quality = very weak), ABY=2013.

Is there something here that I am missing? Or would purchasing it not be a bad idea?

So essentially you want to purchase a cheap, very weak domain that you can pass off to unsuspecting newbies as a powerful domain due to its worthless PR?

It could work, as long as nobody with a clue about what they are doing purchases a link from you, as they will probably leave you bad feedback.

very risk method. 50/50. better find old tumblrs and register them to you account.

Finding quality domains for PBNs also isn't just about the metrics and will probably be more about the backlink profile of a domain. Even if the checkpagerank tool will say it is a strong PR4, but if the backlinks are spammy, I don't think having links on those type of domains will give it a boost in ranking money/client sites.
So look at the backlink profile of that domain if it's worthy to register.

In this case I'd be the unsuspecting newbie :).

Other than that, from what I've read so far it's important for the website to be
- Expiring (not expired as it would lose its PR rating) --> probably making it harder to buy / will cost you more
- Backlink profile ---> has to be decent, if not the PR is basically worthless.
