Hi,

I have decided that come the new year I am going to make significant investments in PPC marketing. I know the basics, principles and economics of PPC, and have previously made half assed efforts (years ago) of starting in PPC.

Before I get involved this time I intend to be properly briefed, with a solid system and business plan and funding in place.

Can anyone tell me what the most up to date, relevant ebooks/videos/courses I should spend my time studying before getting involved

Anything from the basics through to complex strategies please.

The more the merrier!

Thanks in advance

Considering you are a beginner, there are plenty of guides that can help you. Even lots of WSOs in the WF.

If you are compliant with Facebook and Google advertising policies, I highly recommend you to pick one of these and study them in deep detail. They both can provide you with volume traffic, so there is lots of scale potential. For the hot stuff I recommend people who offer coaching services (quite expensive usually), or private forums (usually anywhere from $20 to $150/m)

Again, as a beginner I highly recommend you to start with only 1 traffic source until you master it. Even AOL can offer you $xxx,xxx/day on ad spent. Just pick one and go with it.

The guides that helped me get started with PPC are:

Traffic blackbook 2.0
Perry Marshall guides

Some people here in bhw despise WSO's but there are many helpful guides relating to PPC. It took me about 3-5 months to let it all sink in. Of course you gotta take action but if you have a tight budget you can use vouchers for all the big 3 PPC platforms.

Thanks guys....currently working my way through pay per click formula 3.0.....but will take a good read at all your suggestions also

I started with bing because of prices. The traffic is no where near size of google but:

1) It has lower competition (mistakes cost less)
2) Vouchers and coupons are more available for bing ads (google only lets you use one per account lifetime)
3) Guidelines and policies are less strict (you use direct affiliate links)

I have recently expanded my PPC to google and now facebook as I learn more. Even so my first few days on google adwords were a little rough and I spent $150+ I did not need too. Its better to start lower and adjust bids upward as you need to acquire more traffic.

Another few points I am learning (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Only bid high ($0.5+) on phrase or exact match keywords. If you use broad, you will get very low targeted traffic depending on length of keyword/s. Maybe create one ad-set with your high conversion keywords (phrase or exact matches) that you can monitor closely and adjust bids easier. Then create one ad-set with your mass keyword list (broad) and set a max bid on all at $0.1-$0.2 or whatever seems cost effective for lower conversion clicks.

I am about to dive into PPC myself. I was watching Lynda's adwords series (basic and advance). It seemed pretty good.

Anyone knows how long it takes for MS to send you $100 coupon? I submitted a request on official promo Microsoft page but haven't received anything in over 24 hours..
3) Guidelines and policies are less strict (you use direct affiliate links)
isn't it better to use a lander or should I test both including direct linking?

What I did to learn the basics of PPC was get my Bing Ads and Google Adwords certifications. After that, I learnt more advanced techniques such as how to optimise my ad copies and my landing pages by analysing what works for my competitors through their landing pages and through their ad copies.
