I made a post 2 days ago. Then after a few minutes I changed its URL to a slightly shorter one.

Now Google fails to index this post. The error in GSC is: Duplicate, submitted URL not selected as canonical.

The new URL is not on Google, but the old one is on Google (as GSC says).

The old URL redirects to the new one automatically on my site.

However, neither the old URL (the one that Google sees as canonical) nor the new URL is indexed. I can't see them when I search site:domain.com.

I usually index the posts on that site through IndexInject, it works fine for me.

And all my posts get indexed in a couple of hours, some even start ranking pretty fast.

But this time I tried to add it via GSC too. Bummer, I shouldn't have done that. I believe this is the reason for the error.

This is not a penalty. The site is fine (knock on wood :)).

I built several internal links to that post. Posted it to Twitter.

Resubmitted the post URL via IndexInject and the GSC a few times.

Updated that post with a few new phrases to make Google recrawl it.

Still not indexed.

Does anyone know how to fix it and get it indexed? Do I just need more patience or it's hopeless?

Thank you!

Sounds like you already did a 301 redirect, so you should be good.
It has only been a few days, so just wait a little longer and the issue will fix itself.
