You should never take the images which covers the name of the other sites or logo of the other sites, There are high amount of chances to get penalty from such theft.

Yeah Im not taking a logo or anything like that. Just say.. maybe like a general product online. Are you saying that Google penalizes ranking for doing this?

I think the only issue you will have is if you steal a copyrighted image and try and use it as your own. If you don't claim owner ship you are alright. (This is the legal side of it).
As for Google, I don't think they care too much about the image, as long as the content is good.
Not heard of anything being dropped for adding images from other sites to theirs.

BUT If you copy someone else's image, they can make you pay for the rights to use it.

The only images you can use safely are the ones you specifically own the rights to use.
Not only that, but you might grab an image of someone who killed theirself, and you will have the entire internet mad at you.
Will you get caught? Probably not. Can you get caught? Yes.
If they catch you, you WILL have to pay.
THAT is the legal side of it.

if you use a company photo and cover the company logo with your own logo than yes you will be penalized

It is highly recommended to use royalty-free stock images. One excellent site to purchase stock images is http://www.istockphoto.com.

There?s no such a thing as Google?s penalty for using somebody?s images. But using someone?s visual content without the corresponding permission isn?t a good idea in any case.
When you simply go search on Google, find a picture you like, and use it on your blog it is called content theft. It?s no different than finding somebody?s blog post, copy/pasting it, and posting it on your own site.
If you steal somebody?s image, its owner can easily detect it and then file a DMCA notice to your hosting (which could get your site shut down) Also, image owners can sue you for illegal using of their content.
And note that simply linking to where you got the image doesn?t make it ok to use it (especially if you use it for commercial purposes). To be on the safe side, you need to contact an image owner and discuss the usage of their visual content.

Same as for copied content. If you do not own it, you can get your ass kicked.
Amazon allows you to use their images as long as you are promoting that product, but Google can certainly penalize your site if you have been stealing images from here and there. Same goes for adsense.
If it is a big site with aims of remaining there for a long time then I would recommend to either purchase the pics, use pics with commercial rights or simply hire a photographer and prepare a long shooting session.
If it is BH site then who the fuck cares...

Ahh I seem to be getting mixed answers I'm not too worried about the legal issue, but more-so just with the Google penalty if there is one. Reyone said there is a penalty as well as someone early but then others are saying that there isn't confused

Nothing to be confused about, Google takes sites out of its index because of DMCA requests, plain and simple. Up to you if you want to take that chance or not.
