Porn Tube Hosting. Is hostgator good enough?

I am looking to start a porntube website. I figured i can start with a vps then if it gets busy move to a dedicated server.

Would this vps from hostgator be good enough at the start?

The snappy 2000

2 cores, 2gb ram, 120 gb space, 1.5tb bandwidth. It's only 89.95 a month so i find the price good enough for me to afford but not break the bank.

What advice would you give me? I dont want to get something too overkill.

Will you be hosting the videos directly on the VPS itself or will you just be embedding videos from other tube sites?

I want to host the videos directly on the vps. I have no interest in embedding from other tube sites.

Depending on how many videos you plan on uploading, I suspect that the first bottleneck you'll face is either the disk space or bandwidth. However, as long as the rest of the VPS is properly optimized (Apache/Nginx and MySQL) then you should not have a problem hosting the website on the VPS until you gain traffic.

Not sure if there is a specific reason why you want the VPS with Hostgator or not, but if you do not have a preference then you could also shop around a bit before ordering. With the $89.95 budget, you should have no problem getting a better deal as far as configuration goes.

It would probably be a while until i uploaded more than 1000 videos. Its just a hobby so im not planning on uploading millions of videos.

Not too much of a reason. Just used them in the past and had no problems with them. And Canada hosting seems really expensive.

Chances are you won't get enough traffic to matter - but if you're successful in promoting the site and get a lot of traffic, you'll get shut down in a jiffy for too much bandwidth usage.

It depends if you have a lot of visitors. If you have, then your account will probably get suspended for using too much server resources. If that happens, i suggest rent your own dedicated server.

Some of you didn't even read what OP wrote. He is buying a VPS with set amount of bandwidth.

Yes, Hostgator will gladly host your porn site. But for same amount of money, you could probably get a better deal at leaseweb.com,
for example QuadCore Xeon, with 4 GB of RAM, 4x500 GB SATA and 100 MBps unmetered (50 EUR).

And with leaseweb you can choose your server's location.
