Hey y'all.

This poll should relate to owners of sites with a lot of internal pages (ex: tube and etc).
Do your sites open internal pages in new tabs (_blank) or keep'em within the same window(_self)?

Thanks in advance to all, who has voted. Just curious to know, why you have picked to open internal pages in new tabs or keep them in the same windows? Have you done testing that has proved your choice better than the other?

Thanks for the feedback. Has anyone run into issues with new tabs being blocked by pop-up blockers?

I like new tab. But it depends what the user is doing.

New tab gives me a chance to take up more tabs in their browser, potentially reurning the person to my site later because he forgot to close a tab.

Then again, you dont wanna annoy visitors with new tabs on every click. Can get annoying.

Just find balance.

New tab: for external links outside your site

Same tab: for internal links as you don’t want to annoy the person with tons of new tabs, you got to give them great site experience.

Same tab for internal link and most of the times for external links.

Even if I think that the use will want to come back to the original page, I avoid it as some users get confused.
